Poor mactards
(no pun intended in the title)

I just can't decide if this is funny or hilarious. This, well at 17 I wouldn't call him kid, is all kinds of *tard. And in the end he didn't even get the iPad, instead he got an iPhone and a laptop.

Re: Poor mactards
I don't know if that's at all true, and if it is, I don't know if I should laugh my ass out or sympathize with the receiver of the 'chinese kidney'.
Leaving aside all serious thought and humanitarian feelings, that boy still has the other kidney! He could sell it and book the iPad 3 right away. Imagine if this happens, Steve Jobs comes to know the plight of the poor *tard and decides to gift him the iPad3. What disappointment! That boy will probably kill himself, leading all that hardware (and even this thread) completely meaningless. Such waste of time.
The news page reports 'trading organs online' is a common practice in China. Now, if I were to put up an ad on ebay for my kidney (or both of them) after I die, should it go to the highest bidder?
Seriously, too many people in China.
On afterthought he should have gone for an iPhone clone by selling a kidney clone (or stone if you want to keep the rhyme). Will Apple use this story to promote their products, "Get something worth a kidney for just Rs. 40,000". What a great punchline it will make.

i am not so sure. Other sources reporting the same thing reported him showing up with only an ipad 2. This seems a more accurate source and lists a few more details.

Well, look at it this way. If his other kidney fails or he dies from infection, he might be eligible for a Darwin award. Awarded posthumously of course.

I don't think there's any other way it can be awarded.

You don't have to die to get the award, just remove yourself from the gene pool (ability to spawn offspring).

Re: Poor mactards
I think the saddest part is it takes a kid selling his organ for an iPad 2 for it to make the news that there's a thriving black-market organ trade in China. There's people selling their organs for plenty of other useless devices. There's also probably some people who did it for groceries. But instead of asking, "What can we do to stop people from engaging in shady surgery to satisfy their consumerism?" we poke fun at this kid who made a bad decision. I guarantee you this kid isn't the first one that has done it.

Re: Poor mactards
It's well known that there is a thriving black market for organ transplantation in China, India etc. And it is also known that people do it precisely because they are in a bad financial situation and need money for basic needs like food and shelter. What's different about this case is that he did it for a profoundly stupid reason.

Re: Poor mactards
Maybe his basic needs included getting an iPad 2, or whatever he got.
