    < system defrag..Not VB >

I have gone in systray and deleted everthing except explore(windows) and started defrag..it keeps cutting out and starting over meaning something is running...What?

system moniter, power, and whatever is set to never.

Is there something I am missing...when I tried to run ScanDisk I got a message over and over that something was running and should be shut down...to my knowledge nothing is running...
is there anywhere else I can check to see what is going on

Check out this KB article http://support.microsoft.com/support...SRCH&SPR=W98SE

Also, how about safe mode reboot, then it won't load anything

lets see... make sure you dont have any taks schedualed, you dont have any trojians... do you have win2k? make sure no servers are on. If you have cable internet (or anything thats not dial up) then try disconnecting the wire.

    It's a MS bug
How can it be a MS bug if Ms never created it. Norton created Defrag.
Wayne, did you go into task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and see what is running. all that should be in there is systray and explorer.

then turn off screensaver. other than that it should be al. what do you have down in the systray? all that should be there is the speaker.

could do msconfig and see what is started and not showing up in task manager. sometimes you get one hiding. this of course is on win9x

    hope this helps

Hey MS gets blamed for whatever is in their OS, so it's their bug
    I here ya there,

as for being a little slow.....no I don't think so......., I have had this happen to me many times and I always find the culprit, I have never once defraged in safe mode.
