    Which laptop to buy?

I'm planning to buy myself a new laptop. Mainly for development purposes (in VS2010).
After searching the internet for quite a while I zeroed-in on the NP-RV509-S01IN which is currently selling at about Rs. 33,000 on various sites.

Is there anything better than this, I can get at near about the same price?
    What are your suggestions?

How much is Rs. 33,000 converted to USD?

    1 USD = 44.6 INR

That makes it 739 USD (approx)

If you're not in love with Samsung laptops (which, in my opinion, are just so so in terms of design, quality, reliability and value. If you love the slick design of those Sammy's, you can get a much better value buying Asus's...), you can get an HP DV6T with Intel core i7 (2nd gen) for about $850 USD:

If you must stick to your budget, this one gives you better bang for the bucks (core i5 vs i3 on the Sammy; you save a few bucks too)

Which one of these two would be better, if I have to choose one out of them:
    Core i3 380M (2.53GHz) with 4GB DDR3 RAM
    Core i5 480M (2.66GHz) with 3GB DDR3 RAM

    Re: Which laptop to buy?

I think, the second one will be better, ie. one with i5.

    This one is nice - Core i5 480M (2.66GHz) with 3GB DDR3 RAM

But I would recommend this one for 888$-920$
-Sony VAIO VPCF13UFX/H 16.4" Intel Core i7 Processor Notebook
    -4GB DDR3 RAM

Sony is a bit overpriced. And I think, for an i7 lap, it would cost more than his budget.

    Re: Which laptop to buy?

I'd be much more concerned with things like length of the warranty, the keyboard size and feel (and I especially like backlit keyboards on a laptop), battery life, having the ports and flash media slots I use, and .... lack of crapware if possible.

I avoid AMD like the plague myself, and prefer a smaller form factor (if you're not using it as a portable device why even get a laptop?). No 17" and up boat anchors for me.

Dual-core is nice, anything more on a laptop wouldn't be a priority. Since you're likely to be suckered into 64-bit you want 4GB though.

    Re: Which laptop to buy?

if you're coding on it, the more cores the better due to compile times.
core i-5 is confusingly available in both dual and quad-core.
the 480m listed above is a dual core.
depending on your usage though, you might really consider the i-3. The i-5 is much harder on battery.
the g6t hewlett packard is a good choice, and starts out at $430. You can then customize it. I really don't recommend 6gb of ram because the ram will eat up battery just as fast as the processor does. I would go for the 750gb hard drive. However you could also get the $20 recovery dvd and upgrade the drive yourself and this way you would have a spare drive you could put in an external case or in one of the dvd drive swap-out adapters.
