    This is a bit off topic but I have to ask, do you work in a computer repair shop, or do you just have a lot of broken hardware around?

    Can you actually read from the hard drive? Are there any files on it?
    Delete it. They just clutter threads anyway.

    run fdisk or another partition manager and make sure you have that partition set as active. If not, it can't be booted from. The reboot upon install boots from the hard drive instead of the cd/dvd

    @TheBigB

    Yes i have files in there. Second the laptop see the hard drive(how can i say that?). Because i see all the partition i have the Drive C: and D:.

    @Baja

    Sorry for being a newbie person in some parts of computers, not to professional but i try to google some other things to lessen my question and try some other ideas. Before i post here.

    I am not working in a repair shop of computers. I am a Computer Operator in a large bank on the philippines we handle COBOL (mainframe) so i concentrated on that part. I don't have much time to repair my computer.

    Yes you are right i have a pc parts that have more problems. I don't know why?!? Unlucky?! wew!

    @lord
    Only one partition have a OS. How can I make as an active partition my Back-up Partition w/c is Drive D:.
    Drive C: (already formatted with XP but doesn't works) and i think Drive C: is only one active partition on my hard drive.

    fdisk which comes with windows can do this. tell it which partition to view then mark it as active. easy. Also it can show you which one is currently active.
    alternatively you could try a clean install from xp and delete all current partitions then create a new one and this would mark it active for you. You would need to copy your data off the drive first.

    since this is a laptop i assume it is one drive with two partitions. go into your bios and make sure you are booting from the hard drive and not a flash drive or something. If you install xp over an existing partition you didn't remove (NOT format! Actually REMOVE) it assumes it is bootable and doesn't check.

    you need to get xp working and on the first partition, then install vista
    ahci and ide shouldn't matter but don't change it after install.

    i always do format to the partition where OS will be installed so i don't have a existing one and it means it always fresh install.

    I think much better that i will back up my files and totaly clean my hard drive and try to install a new one. (n_<)

    I will come back later! Let see what will happen!
