How do I tell if my CD is on a EIDE or SCSI bus?

    Is there anyway to tell?

Open the case and look inside. Follow the cable hooked up to the CD to its point on the motherboard. Then look on the board it should say either EIDE, IDE or SCSI.

Unless you paid extra for it, it is not very likely that you have a SCSI CD.

They're very expensive and usually only come if you specify one (even in high-end desktops).

Or you have one from the stone age

The 1x and 2x came mostly SCSI
4X and up were generally IDE/EIDE

You don't have to open up the computer and look inside if you don't want to bother with that.

When you start up the computer it will tell you in the bootup process. If it's IDE or EIDE (well I doubt it would be IDE really) then it should show the CD drive in the same list of devices as any EIDE hard drives you have, and any floppy drives. If it's SCSI there will probably be a separate SCSI device detection screen on bootup which will list any SCSI devices in your computer with their SCSI ID numbers.

If you don't see anything about SCSI on startup then I can pretty much guarantee it's EIDE.
Now, aren't you sorry you didn't just keep on scrolling?

If you dont have a SCSI card or a SCSI bus on board...you dont have one....If you do, like Jamagei said, It will list connected SCSI devices in the list.

Chris: SCSI drives are not generally expensive.
