I Was Just Called A Fuddy Duddy
Here is some of the T.V. programs that I've never seen. When I say never seen, I mean, literally, never.
Any of the current cartoon shows (that includes the Simpsons and Song Park)
Any reality show that has ever aired
American Idol
Does this make me a fuddy duddy?

In terms of reality shows and American Idol etc, I would just say that you have good taste - I've watched small amounts of them and usually wished I hadn't.
I would recommend giving the Simpsons a try tho, it can be rather good.

I guess that means you've never seen Perfect Hair Forever, Bombshells From The Sky, The Venture Brothers, or other small-market animation then.

South Park. Which I started watching when they put nearly every episode on their website to watch for free. It can be quite crude, but I like how there's no particular skew (in that they make fun of everyone regardless of nationality, political orientation, religion, status, etc.), and some of their satire can be delightful.

Were you called JUST a fuddy duddy, or an OLD fuddy duddy. Run of the mill fuddy duddies are dull folk, but OLD fuddy duddies have a certain quaint quality to them, like a cheese that has aged to perfection...or beyond....quite a bit beyond.

I was called an OLD Fuddy Duddy...I suppose I should note that the individual who feels I fall into this category is 26.

Well they can be actually very good depending on the episode.
Any reality show that has ever aired
American Idol
No this just shows a remarkable amount of good sense and good fortune !

That show turned me off right from the very beginning as it seemed to be applauding under achievement.

Re: I Was Just Called A Fuddy Duddy
I found that over the last two years I have severely cut down on the amount of TV drivel that I watch. I'm sure that at some point I was probably up to well over 30 hours a week (and that doesn't count during football season... - and I'm also not counting the months I was out of work either) Now, I'm down to a much more saner 8 hours a week. The only night that I glut on TV is Monday... but it balances out as there's nothing I watch Wed, Fri or Sat. So I average about an hour a night of something I actually watch - more often than not it's on for the noise while I'm doing something else. There's too much junk on these days, and I'd rather read instead anyhow. So I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Besides, now that I've moved to a more moderate climate, I plan to get a bike and start pedaling more often.

Sounds like you don't like being a couch potato. I haven't had a TV in over 10 years, and I don't miss it. I do waste time with video games though.
As for what is an old fuddy-duddy, I would describe one as someone who does not:
Watch any new TV shows
Listen to any new music
Play any new video games
Go to carnivals
Go to the movies
Go to amusement parks

Re: I Was Just Called A Fuddy Duddy
Yes, you're right, I don't really want to be a couch potato... With my recent weight loss, and changes in my life, I have more energy and motivation to undo the sedentary life I had been leading.
Hmmm... I must be just a duddy then....
I do watch a couple new shows.
I do listen to new music. - wait... new as in new pop music? or new music from bands that I grew up with? I mean if Pink Floyd or Moody Blues puts out something new, is that "new" music, or does "new" music mean I'm listening to the latest bubblegum pop 40 radio?
I don't play video games - new or old. I do occasionally play tennis or golf on the Wii though.
Don't go to carnivals (where I used to live there weren't many that were worth the effort)
I do go to the movies but not often - and with the rising prices and lowering quality... it's getting less and less often that I go.
And I don't go to amusement parks (none within reasonable driving distance).

Re: I Was Just Called A Fuddy Duddy
I would consider "new" music either new groups or new songs put out by existing groups.
Anyone I would call an old fuddy-duddy is someone not-receptive to new things for fun. Doing new things for work doesn't count.

Oh no....
TV viewing is Sports, Public Broadcasting, the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, the Animal Planet or a movie from Netflix.
For radio, I listen to either Sports talk or an all news channel - I don't listen to any kind of music, new or old.
I've never played a video game in my life
I hate carnivals and have since I was about 10
The only movies I've watched in a very long time have been Netflix rentals. I honestly can not remember how long it is been since I've been to a movie theatre. Many, many, many years...
Amusement parks??? Are you serious?

Re: I Was Just Called A Fuddy Duddy
Upon further reflection I think I may have just fibbed.
Back in the 80's I used to occasionally play pinball or space invaders when I went out to the bar. Do either of them count as a video game?

Re: I Was Just Called A Fuddy Duddy
Space invaders was certainly a video game.
Never had a TV, myself, but I play plenty of computer games. I think I could probably count as a fuddy-duddy because I listen to lots of classical music.

Compared to some of the things my wife calls me that is down right flattering!
My wife and I are just starting Season 3 of "The Tudors" which we are getting from Netflix. What a great series (and VERY historically accurate)!!!!!!!!!!

That's all right Hack, you are not alone. I'm in the "old fuddy-duddy" camp right along with you!

I always saw it as a series of cautionary tales about working to do better than underachieving while being tolerant of the limitations in ourselves and others.
Old Homer seems to do little more than muddle along and barely hang onto work, family, life, and limb. Not a lot of applauding there.
The show lost its edge many seasons ago though.
