Outdoor Speakers
We are currently working on an addition to our house which will include a new back patio with a bar/firepit etc. In addition, we want to install outdoor speakers so we can play music outside. We have gone through several patio stores where they have models that have outdoor speakers, but they use car radios that are mounted in the bar area.
What we are looking for it a speaker system where we can stream music from any computer in the house to the outside. Originally we thought of the Apple Aiportexpress because you can connect a stereo to it and use AirPlay from itunes and Apple Tv. This cannot be an option because we would have to use the airport express as our router, which is a little more complicated than we want to deal with.
Any ideas?

Re: Outdoor Speakers
How about using a dedicated iPod Touch connected to a stereo/speaker system that streams the music from a home PC/Mac?

Re: Outdoor Speakers
That is an option. But i doubt my parents are going to want to buy an ipod touch just for that. It would be different if we had one just laying around.

Re: Outdoor Speakers
I might be on the wrong track here but I think my dad used an old laptop and connected the speakers up to it to play the music. He then only had to share the music folder between his pc and the laptop to be able to use the laptop as a sound system.

Re: Outdoor Speakers
any set of outdoor speakers will work for you it seems to me. Just get a set of wireless rear-channel adapters for them. Rocketfish makes a kit for $110 new, although i don't know what your price range is. I will say that wired is always preferrable to wireless. You could hook the input with a y-adapter to the output of any of your pcs in the house. If you are running windows, any of the other pcs can control the playlist with push, although winamp has a web server plugin that may work better.

I believe that is exactly something we need. I will look at it a bit more, but i think that might work.
Thanks
