So I've been watching Bill Burr's new standup on Comedy Central, and of course they bleep the *beep* out of it. But the pattern is just the dumbest thing ever. Apparently it's fine to say "...shove a dick in his ass..." but the word "***" gets bleeped every time. But "fairy" and "homo" seem to be fine. Don't you just love it when the media tries to be politically correct.

Well... it seems that the word filter here suffers from the same disease. The "***" in the original post was a three letter word beginning with F and also means cigarette.

It's not the media being PC.... it has to do with the FCC and a list of words that for what ever reason can't be broadcast, except over premium cable (some how it's better/ok there, but no where else on cable, go figure.)

or after 1AM. Comedy Central often airs R rated movies (and other programming like their roasts) without censor after 1AM. I don't watch too much TV that late, so I don't know if that is still the case, but for a long while it was.

I belive the f word is censored because it is or can be seen as derogatory towards homosexuals. Fairy to a lesser extent, homo isn't really a derogatory term towards homosexuals.

I believe there was a south park episode where they were making a point about the "f" word, when only mr garrison was allowed to say it, and everyone else that said it was bleeped.

Frankly, if anybody tried to keep up with euphimisms, they would have a hopeless task. You can make ANY word sound suggestive if you say it in the right context with the right inflection.

There's a comic in the UK (Viz) that has a strip called Finbarr Saunders and his double entendres. It's amazing how many things can be taken the wrong way.

i hate when the media modifies videos in any way... seriously down at the border in Denmark to Germany you have to speak German in order to watch tv, because Germans don't use subtitles (or at least don't use it often) and do voice syncs, and watching danish translations from english in subtitles is so fun, because its never right.

like someone says f word in a movie it suddenly becomes "lort" which means in english "sh*t" so when i watch movies, i perfer orriginal speech as long as its either faroese, danish, norwegian, swedish, english, german, dutch or icelandic and no subtitles at all, so i can understand what people say, and english subtitles WITH original speech if neither of those languages

Oh yeah. Germans, Italians and Hungarians do voice syncs on everything. A couple of years ago I watched Terminator 2 in Hungarian, funny as hell!
