[serious] Do you want a new look to vbForums ?
I think it's the time to dress it up with a new theme...! Don't you think so ?
This theme of vbForums is looking old. Don't we need a change ?

Maybe the Admin doesn't think about this for many years, until he saw this thread
What's your opinion ? Do want to see vbforums with a new theme or not ?

Re: [serious] Do you want a new look to vbForums ?
The look and feel of this site is part of its branding..... The colors and such are what they are because they are VBForums. If you want a new skin, Joe could create somethign with a different color scheme and give people the option to use it.
As to layout - we kind of evolve with vBulletin. We don't do huge changes because it makes it harder to upgrade at those times we finally do upgrade.

Whose checkbooks? Not mine.
Actually they are doing things like getting articles to post on internet.com sites and such. The admins also spend a lot of time fighting spam and marketing that people continuously try to post ot this forum.

Yeah.. But you can create new shades out of the main colors.
And I heard that vB4 has improved layout because of they are using non-table structure.
So, isn't it time to upgrade to the vB4 version ?

We run a couple dozen forums. For maintenance, we keep them primarily on the same version. As such, when we decide to upgrade, it is a big project. Additionally, being that we have some big forums, we want to make sure that new versions are solid and have been used for a while before we jump into them.
As such, our upgrades are a bit slower than what you guys want. In truth, they are a lot slower than what Joe and I would like to see as well.
Having said that, Joe is always pushing to keep us as current as possible.
Brad!

I do like the new theme for the XDA-dev forum, but I'm not sure whether we really need that here.
Delete it. They just clutter threads anyway.

Re: [serious] Do you want a new look to vbForums ?
Why place such a heavy value on form over function anyway? I can't see who gains from rearranging the deck chairs. It's been bad enough in some cases that I've left forum sites that used to be functional before a redesign.

Re: [serious] Do you want a new look to vbForums ?
As the modern trend seems to be headed towards more and more invasively eye-catching, I prefer that a serious site be more and more about simple, easy to scroll, threads.

I actually quite like the color and look. If they site was to change I would like it to be an evolution of content. I have often said VBforums should change in this way but I don't see the need to change to styling just for the sake of it.

Re: [serious] Do you want a new look to vbForums ?
But my opinion is, this theme of VBForums is giving me a classy look like we are still using Windows 98 even though Windows 7 is out there shining like a star

I would prefer a less graphic -intensive skin for viewing the forums over a cell phone.
I have seen other vBulletin sites do this.

I'm fine with the look of the forums, but agreed that a slimmed-down mobile version would be nice.

Man, that looks nasty with the comma!
I agree with Brad, Shaggy Hiker and others in principle, in that the current theme is good enough for the VB Forums. I would be really upset if the layout changed significantly. I have had periods when I was away from VBF for months at a stretch. Coming back has been like coming back home, not like checking into a different hotel.
After checking out the Office 2007 and the Vista interface, I must say I have become a strong opponent of making drastic changes to the UI.
And Brad and the other admins/mods: I should say it's commendable that you guys have been avoiding the temptation to upgrade the forum software to the latest. I know how strong the urge can get and how much effort it would take to fight it down each time a new version of vBulletin is out. Not to mention the amount of effort and time you all are putting into testing the upgrades. Cheers and hats off to you all!

The interface to this version of VBulletin is crisp and easy to work with. The color scheme is fine. Let's leave it alone, OK? I dunno about everyone else but I'm sick of the constant upgrade cycle. Upgrading just isn't always necessary if everything works.
My 2-cents.

Re: [serious] Do you want a new look to vbForums ?
There is no sense in making any new themes/styles or tweaks to them as when we one day upgrade to vB4 all vB3.x themes are non-compatible and will need to be completely re-written.
vBulletin updated its default blue theme to something alot nicer and yes its all CSS

Partly agreed.
I'm not really bothered by design changes. Most are okay or even an improvement.
What really is fixing what ain't broken, is bells and whistles you don't need.
