    NSFW: The new Google Instant

Has anyone had a chance to see the new Google Instant? I have to say, it's changed things for me, I've seen things that cannot be unseen.

For example, If you do have Google Instant working, try this out (Warning: NSFW results):
    1. Go to Google homepage.
    2. Type in "Is it wrong to"
    3. ...
    4. Stand in shock and disbelief. No, there is no profit this time.

For those of you who don't know Google Instant, it's google's way of making search results, well, instant. I haven't got it to work on Firefox, but I have done so on Google Chrome.

Mods, if this breaks AUP rules, just delete this thread.

If you go to www.google.com and not FF's default of www.google.com/firefox it works in FF too.

I've seen weirder things in that google instant thing (which has been around for 2 or so years that I know of, maybe longer). That google instant thing (yahoo and bing have them too) is really popular on sites like http://mylifeisaverage.com, they have a lot of "google vs yahoo" and "google vs bing" posts, 99% of which the MLIA-er claims "it's obvious who won (being google)" or "obviously google wins this round"
Currently using VS 2015 Enterprise on Win10 Enterprise x64.

Isn't that similar to "google suggest"?

Yes, but now your CPU cycles are wasted with the browser trying to render ajax code that tries to find search results to partially entered search queries before actually hitting the right query with the right result.

Brilliant first result: "It is wrong to ever split an infinitive".

Edit: Ah... I typed the wrong thing.

It has? They do? Ummm.... then why has it only just started rolling out this week? And I've never seen Bing or Yahoo do this... are you sure we're talking about the same thing?

Which is what I thought... which is why I questioned if we were talking about the same thing... I was pretty sure we weren't.

I think me and you are thinking of the same thing... when you type, Google instantly searches, the terms as you type along, which has only been rolled out the past couple of days and has been in development for quite a while at http://www.google.com/instant

What I love about the website for the instant search is the interesting information, such as it saving me 2-5 seconds on search...
... But then all of that is lost when my browser is crippled by the constant searching

I only get the suggestions, which I've had for about a year or so... How do I get this new google instant thing to work? :\

I am simply visiting www.google.com but it redirects me to the dutch page www.google.nl automatically. And no, I am not logged into my gmail account (to get iGoogle or something) or anything, so it should be just the google homepage... But I still don't get it.

Re: NSFW: The new Google Instant

The suggestion terms that show when you type is NOT the new Google Instant.... Google Instant actually does the search and starts returning RESULTS as you type. That has been around for sometime.

Nick... depends on where you are... I still don't see it either. They are rolling it out to their various servers over the next week or two.

The good news is at least there's an option to turn it off... which is what I'll probably need to do... especially at work.

Googles offered the suggested searches for years, the only thing that's changed is how it's presented to the user (which for whatever reason they're calling it a completely different name) rather than a combobox ajax dropdown it's a square box hanging below the search box, still the same data showing in the box so really, nothing's changed

I read that as "as I type, it will do a search and start returning results" ... meaning I don't need to hit the "search" or "lucky" button any more... additionaly, there is an option to turn it off... which I haven't been able to access yet. I'm guessing that I'm not on what ever farm has it yet. (or it could be my "antiquated FireFox browser, which is a v2). IT even states "Introducing Google Instant. Results with every letter." ... right on the Google homepage. Again, to me that's different from the suggestions which has been around some time.

I suggest you use Google to search for "Google Instant" because it's not what you're describing.

Right. Google instant isn't about showing suggestions but also loading the results as you type.

Re: NSFW: The new Google Instant

    From FAQ:

Q: Where is Google Instant available?
A: Google Instant is starting to roll-out to users on Google domains in the US, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia who use the following browsers: Chrome v5/6, Firefox v3, Safari v5 for Mac and Internet Explorer v8. Please note, users on domains other than Google.com can only access Google Instant if they are signed in to a Google Account. We will continue to add new domains and languages over the next several months.

Re: NSFW: The new Google Instant

Frankly, Google Instant rather drives me nuts...most of my internet work is done on my Mac PPC G4 (great machine, but slow as I'll get out). Typing half of something in and getting results just eats up my resources and gives me undesired results. I turned it off.
