Google Chat will now let you call
any US phone number for free.
I wonder what took them so long.

Re: Google Chat will now let you call
But do they record and mine all your calls as they do all chats and GMail?
Who is the big winner here? Telemarketers?

Re: Google Chat will now let you call
Apparently they have done something they have never done before - worked out how to get the end users to pay for it.
From what I read (BBC News?), they are going to cover the costs by charging users for international calls.

Re: Google Chat will now let you call
Im still curious how they have Google Voice for free. Its a very useful and complex system, yet its free. The must make enough money off of Corporate users and AdSense to be able to support everything.

I'm curious how they do pretty much everything for free.
Personally I think advertising is a black hole of funding, but Google doesn't seem to agree.
Delete it. They just clutter threads anyway.

Paid Advertising! People pay big bucks for their advertising from google and that's how google affords to implement free stuff to its users.

It doesn't really have to do with people paying big bucks, its the amount of people paying in general. Working with AdSense, the most expensive ads payout no more than $1.50. There are millions of people who post their ads on google that are paying <$0.30 cents per click.

You've only just noticed? Gmail has allowed calling from chat for a while.

Huh! I didn't know you had it for a while down under. It's relatively new over here.

Re: Google Chat will now let you call
THe rates to Phils seem to be cheaper as well, I might actually try this to call internationally rather than try to remember my skype password. Of course if skype has cheaper rates I'd go for them.
