Samba jarates me off
Samba is disgusting. We have samba servers that authenticate users using Winbind against our domain. Today I spent the entire day trying to create a new share on one of the servers so that is accessible by only one specific group on the domain. I could not for the life of me make it work. I eventually concluded that the winbind database is corrupt on this particular server because after hours of failed attempts to make it work, I thought to query the winbind service. It was returning nonsensical SIDs for some objects and showing duplicate records (same group with two SIDs somehow.) I don't want to mess with fixing winbind, so I have just declared that it is not possible for the users to have this share.

Re: Samba jarates me off
Reminds me of the time when we were trying to get the Oracle DB on Unix to authenticate Windows Domain Users automagically. It never worked. This was 8i. Owing to pressure from the business we ended up writing a process to create every windows user as an Oracle user in the Oracle DB.
A frustrating experience to say the least.

+1 for Team Fortress 2 reference.
And I do the same thing to my dad - whenever I can't be arsed to fix something, I'll tell him that the computer is broken (e.g. he tries to watch a YouTube video but flash isn't installed - "It's broken dad"). Of course, I'll "fix" the computer later and all the drama is over in our family where I'm the hero, so it makes for a win-win situation.

These words should be added to the standard business developer's lexicon.

"The solution that occurs automagically usually leads to nothing more than anticipointment" is now my new motto and in my Outlook signature.

I didn't mean irrate. You would have to play team fortress 2 to get the meaning.
