How does Winzip work?
Just curious, since I know nothing about software compression.
Alcohol & calculus don't mix.
Never drink & derive.

It zips things up.

Look at zLib (infozip) for techy info on Huffman trees 
The ZIP format is "chunked" which is why .tgz is smaller than .zip since ZIP files support random access to files.
See wotsit's format for more info

The Box network is quite a good site too. Doesn't help with zips, but worth a look

The page is in... ummm..... Sk (Svensk?), but the links up the top of the page all lead to English pages (the international ones).
