couldnt you use a dictionary instead? Something like this should work..

       Dim di As New Dictionary(Of Int32, Brush)
        Dim br As New SolidColorBrush
        Dim lb As New LinearGradientBrush
        di.Add(0, br)
        di.Add(1, lb)
