    For a beginner

    Sams has collected a bunch of Teach Yourself books for VB6 in a bundle called
    Teach Yourself VB 6 Megabundle
    ISBN:0672315017
    It contains:
    Teach yourself VB6 in 21 Days
    Teach yourself More VB6 in 21 Days
    Teach yourself Database programming with VB6 in 21 Days
    And a special 100 page book for Advantage VB Ocx's that are included on a CD.

    This is a good start for a beginner.

    Also check out what books VB-world recomends and
    informit.com is a good resource for books.
