Arrow new forum devoted only and specially to converting vb6 code to vb.net

    Hi to All,

I think it would be a great idea creating here an new forum devoted only and specially to converting vb6 code and functions to vb.net.

if not, there is any other website with this main and only subject?

Thanks very much for your support.

Cool idea! Although, from tons of posts on the subject before converting code from vb6 to vb.net is not really possible without a lot of bugs. That is unless you are talking about displaying the two equivalent codes side by side to show users how to do the same thing in both versions?

    Edit:

For those who missed the point! I am talking about rewriting the code from scratch in .net instead of using the conversion tool in .net.

    for sure!
yes I also think there is not the best appoach some "automatic" convertion.

My idea is mainly for developing new projects.
When an experienced vb6 programmer have an idea for a new project, having some questions as "in vb6 I made this thing in this way" ... "and now, in vb.net what is the best way?"

    you've resumed the idea simply:
"show the two equivalent codes side by side to show users how to do the same thing in both versions"

The question is important for those who ask or answer questions in the VB6 forum, and the VB.Net forum, and for the Admins who make the decisions about whether a new forum gets created or not.

The "VB6 and earlier" forum is meant for questions about VB6 and earlier, whereas this forum (within the Community section) is meant for questions/suggestions about VBForums - and unlike the VB6 or VB.Net forums, the Admins are almost certain to read the threads here.

Most forum regulars also read this section, and reply if they see fit.

maybe you and your partners in moderating / maintain the forums would consider open a new forum devoted to the (much) people wanting to start in vb.net from vb6 background.

From actual question volume a forum for VB6 and newer versions of Windows would have made a lot (more?) sense. Win2K introduced a lot of things, XP quite a few more, and Win 6.x (Vista, Server 2008, Win7, Server 2008 R2) have brought about even more such matters to discuss.

From what I've seen a lot of places with VB6-to.Net conversion topics become haunted by conversion tool vendors trying to stealth-market their wares.

dillettante makes an excellent case. A VB6 OS compatibility forum would be quite useful. The only concern I would have would be forum fracture. It's hard enough when I have a question trying to decide if I should search in the Vb Classic forum or its CodeBank, and branching VB6 questions into a third forum would only make that worse.

Regarding the OP, I wouldn't be averse to a VB6-VB.NET transitional forum for developers. It's existance could be the final prod I need to make the switch; I'd be happy camping out in such a forum for months. Such a forum would serve a specific need that would (I imagine) help reduce off-topic clutter from the .NET forum.
