Recommend me a mouse

Hey,

I finally managed to break my 4/5 year old Logitech Click (€10!) mouse, so I'm in need of a new one... I just have no idea at all which one to get. I don't want to spend too much (so I don't want a state of the art gaming mouse for 100 bucks), but I still want a decent mouse because I do play games now and then (mainly shooters). Ideally I'd just get the same mouse again. It was cheap and it worked very well for me But I can't find any place that sells it anymore...


So, anyone know of a cheap but decent mouse, that also works for gaming? I definitely don't want the ball-mouse thingy (either optical or laser), but I don't really care for wireless mice (batteries...).

So yeah, I'm looking for a wired optical/laser mouse, cheap but decent. Any ideas?

I think it might be hard dragging it across the table though.

I use a Logitech Desktop Wave Cordless Pro (http://www.logitech.com/en-us/keyboa...s/devices/4677), keyboard and mouse combo. Keyboard works on AA batteries, been using it for a couple of months and still no sign of them going out, the meter says good. Mouse works on rechargeable batteries and comes with a plugin charger. With heavy use I only charged it 3 or 4 times now. A bit on the pricey side though. Ergonomically speaking the best and comfiest mouse and keyboard I've ever used (and I went through A LOT). The only down side is the wifi works on the standard 2.4GHz band and it sometimes clashes with the router that works on same, so you get a hang for a second or too (couple of times a day), usually just the keyboard though. But the router is sitting on the table one foot from them.

Depending on your hand size, get a bigger one. I find that the little ones give me cramps.

Thanks for the advice but $129 is a bit steep! I just want a decent but cheapish mouse. I mean, my Logitech Click was only something like $10 and it has worked perfectly for 4 to 5 years. It only broke because I dropped it

Works good except that it's rather small and I have pretty big hands and it really cramps my style
Also, it's meant for laptops so the cable is really short.

It has that dual scrolling mode like the one I have in my combo. That's a very nice feature.

The M500 does look nice, I think I'm just going to go with that one... I'm not going to know if I like it until I try it so we'll see. Thanks

Just an explanation on the scroller, if you you decide to buy it. It has two modes, chosen by the button below it. One is a standard stepper mode, you feel the slight clicking as it steps discretely, which is standard. But when you press the button below the wheel it releases it to an almost frictionless state, so when you flick it, it keeps on scrolling by itself to what seems like infinity. Very nice feature when scrolling through long documents, lists, webpages etc. Click it again and it goes back to stepping neatly.

i have that same feature on my revolution. It's cordless/battery, however it has a dock and runs off bluetooth so i only have to charge it on the dock about once a week for a couple of hours.

I had a play with a logitech Mx518 at a friend's, and I liked it so I just got that instead It was only 30 bucks or something, and supposed to be a pretty good mouse. Still getting used to how it fits into my hand (it's bigger than my old mouse) but it's dead accurate and has almost no friction even without a mouse pad. I like it so far!

I would have gone to the local computer store bought the normal optical 3-button mouse with scroll wheel. I don't like too much of fancy things. The device should do what it is meant to do, that's all. Plus it costs almost nothing. Here it would cost less than Rs. 100 INR ( ~ $2 when converted to USD)

I would have agreed to that before, but after using a good and comfortable keyboard and mouse (having in mind I spend hours on the computer each day) I would never go back to a cheaper, less ergonomic device. Same were my thoughts on high-end OEM cases like Cheiftec which is about 3-4 times the cost of generic (Chinese) ones, until I got one and saw the difference in build quality, PSU quality, etc.

I rarely buy brand name desktop machines. I always build and put together my own choosing components I want.

Ergonomics is one big factor I consider while buying things. I have seen mice/keyboards with pretty good ergonomics in local markets. Though they miss those fancy lights/extra buttons etc. Cost is almost same. So I'd recommend visiting some local shop first. If you don't like none from those shops, the option of getting from the branded stores is always open anyways.

It says 30 bucks on that site. If they're 30 bucks I'd rather go with my Mx518 which was only 35 and is known for how good it is.

That MS mouse is a compact, probably meant for mobile use with laptops. But I have pretty big hands and using a small mouse is really uncomfortable for me. This Logitech one I have now is as big as a baby's head, and fits me perfectly.

Another good advantage I see while buying from local stores is that you can actually see the product, feel it, try a mock use with your hands and see how good it fits or not. All this before paying for what you are buying.

I do do that. Believe it or not eCommerce is quite a new concept here. Buying online is an option in very few places in the country, so to buy online I'd have to import, and that gets me the shipping charges and 30% customs tax, so I rarely do that.

Buying online is just so much easier and quicker too. Order before 21.00 and you'll get it the next morning. I can't go out to buy one around 21.00 nor in the morning so if I go to the store it'll actually takes longer And shipping costs is maybe 1 or 2 bucks, probably less than what I'd spend on gas + parking money having to travel to the store

Logitech > Microsoft. That is all I have to say about that....

I use the basic Logitech Optical. It cost $15. The less 'ergonomic'(awkwardly shaped) the better IMO.

Also, cordless peripherals I see as undesirable. Batteries, reception, batteries, quality, batteries....

But completely avoid MS if you can. The mouse buttons are precision-created to cease working properly after a few years. Pretty much any old MS mouse has left-click button problems.
