[RESOLVED] Lost VS2008 can i get it back?

I have purchased windows 7 today and installed it.
The problem is that i lost Visual Studio 2008 Stranded Edition.
Were could i download it.
I do have the Key that i have purchased from the Microsoft Store.
Were can i download it.
I have looked on google but i only found the Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition.

I would want to avoid using torrents or any uncredible sources

You can email microsoft.I don't know if they will bring you a fresh vs standard but you have nothing to loose.

If you bought it from net and specifically from Microsoft then...I don't know.
If else, find the shop you bought it and talk to them.
Also if they guy you talked to did not correct you when you said "Stranded Edition" then he probably isn't the guy to talk to.

For the meantime just plug in VS Express 2010.

What's wrong with torrenting if you have a legitimate key? Just torrent the standard version so you have the ISO. Install it and input your key.

That's because you're overly paranoid. Way too many of your posts some type of paranoia in them.

Torrents can be bad, but are rarely. If you read the comments and make sure you have an antivirus/antispyware application, you're fine.

That seems like an arbitrary number, but yeah.

I remove viruses from customers computers every week. Most issues come from social networking sites, illegitimate sites and lack of good av/as applications.

A lot of people use torrents. If you're safe and have common sense, you'll be fine.

In fact, I downloaded VS 2008 Professional from a torrent today. I have a legitimate key, but the version I had was a trial. I could've downloaded the trial from MS again, then inputted my key, but torrents are so much faster.

You know some could of injected a peace a file into that torrent.
I know that sounds paranoid but it could be true.

Simple fact is that a Torrent Client will be never installed on my machine.

Like sapator suggested you could buy it on ebay and a boxed set so if you need to reinstall it again you will have the disks at your disposal. The other option is to down the standard version of Visual Studios 2010 and see if your key works on it.

It seems odd to me that you're so conscious of security threats yet it appears that the only copy of this valuable software you had was on your hard drive and you apparently reformatted that without taking a copy. What good is protecting yourself from the outside world if everything you own digitally could be lost due to a power spike? Whether or not you resolve this particular issue, I suggest that you consider backing up anything that is important to you in the future. Copying anything important before reformatting a hard drive is a good idea too.

You shouldn't be afraid of torrents.
After all you are familiar with a computer,right?
Just scan the setup.exe file before installing.
JM i have a case that i wrote a cd backup and after sometime my hd crashed and my cd backup was damaged and i lost a good 300mb of coding.
So you can take precautions but you can never be sure.
I had 2 usb hd crashed the previous 3 months.I couldn't just save 1Terra of data in dvd's.
Also if VS was pre-installed then he couldn't take a backup.
P.S. Am not arguing with you, i just try to make him feel better

That's true but it doesn't sound like precautions were taken in this case. Most, if not all, of us have lost something at some point that we wouldn't have if we had backed up, myself included. Also, none of us likes having our stupid mistakes pointed out to us, myself included. I'm not trying to make him feel worse, but I am trying to ensure that the same mistake isn't made again.

No, I wouldn't, but I think I've already indicated what I think about that. What's done is done and it's now time to make the best of it. I would say that the only options for the OP are to get a copy of VS 2008 Standard through Microsoft or, if they won't provide one, consider other means.

Again without defending noone.How could you keep a copy of something that is installed on your computer without the original cd-dvd?
Many greek hardware-software shops here are installing everything at you newly bought computer and they are just giving you a recovery cd and the fun part is that they charge you everything even if you have it on the hd and not on cd.I don't know what happens when you ask them the cd's.I'm very lucky to get almost everything i wand in hw and sw from companies i work with.

Transferred into 5 departments.

I learned a good lesson that i have to back-up everything
