You should just use a batch script, it's easier.

reg add HKCR\.tmc
reg add HKCR\.tmc\DefaultIcon
red add HKCR\.tmc\DefaultIcon /ve /d "location of your icon"

I guess your icon is just getting resized. What's the original icon's size?
