Ice Skates
Anyone here own a pair of ice skates? Can they recommend any?
I am looking at hockey skates at the moment to learn on and one day maybe dabble in Ice Hockey. The problem is here in the UK almost all ice skates are sold online as there are very few shops that stock any.
Any recommendations would be appreciated

Maybe the reason for that is, you don't have any ice in the UK.

You could pop along to your local rink, and ask an expert for advice (maybe even watch a session while you are there):

Re: Ice Skates
As with any sport the learning process begins with developing your physical abilities which in this case is mostly balance and the equipment does not make much difference right now. Any decent hockey skates will be fine for this. After you have got the basics down you will understand more about how you skate and what you need. Then you will be ready to go out and spend some bucks on a good pair of professional skates.
I would recommend getting a cheap pair to begin with from a major name brand sporting goods place like CCM or RBK. Get the basics down. After you get going you will find out if you are a fast skater or if you do a lot of side to side movement or if you are better at going in reverse for defense. This will help you to determine which skates are right for you.
Slashing, high-sticking, fighting, cross-checking
Anything else is figure skating

Ok thanks peeps will look at a cheapish pair to begin with.
I am going to learn down the ice center in Nottingham anyway so I hope to move on to that course. It will probably take a few months before I get there though
Actually I went to play field hockey last night, am absolutely nackered

I own a Roces pair. The blades are interchangeable with inline wheels so you can use them for both. Work great, comefortable. Don't remember the price though. Bought them about 4 years ago. Only used the wheels once.
EDIT: And just now noticed the date of the thread. Feeling stupid.

So....what ever happened? Was it just a passing fancy? Will you be skating mixed doubles in the London Olympics? How about the Westminster Shor?

Both are valid reasons to resurrect a 83 year old thread in chit chat.

Re: Ice Skates
Well, that's understandable. Skating is exercise, and I have never known a dog that didn't pant while exercising.
