I want to put XP on a modern netbook
I'm interested in purchasing a modern netbook - I have seen many nice-looking models under $300.
However I own the MSDN OS edition which means I have spare XP and Vista licences.
I want to buy a netbook, but am unsure if I will be able to upgrade it.
1) Can you boot to an external USB-DVD drive? This would be step 1 in installing WinXP
2) Do any netbooks come with XP drivers?
3) Has anyone tried this and had perfect results? I am not interested in doing this if there will be any issues. I definately need all the hardware (Wifi, sound, video, disk access) to poerform 100%.
Thanks!

Re: I want to put XP on a modern netbook
Many netbooks have WinXP pre-installed. If the ones you like don't come with XP, go to the manufacturer website and make sure they do have XP drivers for it before making the purchase.
Yes, you can boot from an external USB CD/DVD drive. Just set the boot other in BIOS to boot from USB device first. Once done installing the OS, you change the boot order back to the internal HDD first.

Re: I want to put XP on a modern netbook
The ones I am looking at are always either Linux or Win7 Starter. It is one of these I would probably buy, but ya I am not sure how to ensure I will find XP drivers for all the built-in hardware.
I guess I was hoping to hear someone say "Yes I bought xxxxxx netbook and installed WinXP and it runs flawlessly!"

I did buy one, that came with Vista only drivers, but found XP ones on manufacturer website and XP runs fine on it. It originally came with FreeDos (basically no OS). If you want XP than choosing one with no OS or Linux is better, because if you get Vista/7, you're probably paying for it.

That's a great point I would def. be paying a few bucks for the OS. I havent seen any with no OS.
I guess also I could use recommendation of netbooks too.
