Resolved [RESOLVED] [serious] I got myself an Android Phone

and now I am trying to figure out tethering.

Has anyone done it? I don't want to pay Verizon an extra $30 just for tethering.

First - get my app! GPS Logger for Android.

OK, it's possible to tether, I've done it and it works on Ubuntu as well as Windows 7.

In either case, you'll need to download the Android SDK (because it comes with something called 'adb' (Android Debug Bridge, I believe)).

You'll also need to get an app called Proxoid, it's on the market.

The basic gist of the steps are to first tell adb to forward all port 1080 traffic to the phone. Proxoid picks this up and uses the phone's data connection. You'll of course need to set your browser to go to localhost:1080. (Or it could be 8080)

The steps will take a while, but follow this:

I got the gps logger for Android. Used it on my way home for lunch. I am yet to download the files it has created, but I will do that later. I wonder if there's a way to email that file using the email client on the phone.

That might be a feature to add.

That app appears to be well crafted.

The only thing I can't figure out is why doesn't it rotate, when I rotate my phone.

That's coming very soon, I've already implemented the feature (but it's in the paid version, mwahahah!!)

I've specifically disabled rotation as it's just eye candy.

Anyways, try the tethering thing. If it 'seems' overwhelming at first, it isn't that difficult once you do it. The proxoid guy has helpfully supplied batch files that you can run.,

I can't seem to download the proxoid file. Something on my network is blocking the download.

I'm lazy, so I just downloaded a ROM, rooted my phone, and turned it on through the ROM.

Which phone did you get btw?

Did you do it just for fun or are you using your Droid as modem for some other device?

I am doing it because I can. I am not using this as my full time modem.
