Interesting Incidents or Stories from Your Life
I thought I'd start this thread so VBForums members can share some interesting incident or story from their life that they would like to tell us about.
This morning I found myself thinking about something that happened when I was growing up. I think I was in 6th grade at the time. I had a friend who lived just around the corner a few houses away who had moved about a half mile away. By street it was more than a mile away because of the way the development was set up and because of the hills.
We were playing a board game at his house. I don't remember the name of the game but it had these cards that were perhaps 3 x 5 inches in dimension that represented something that you were in control of. Dice were involved in the game. My friend ended up losing something he had control of to me so he had to give me one of his cards that represented the thing he no longer had control of. He was exasperated at losing what he had to give to me so he threw the card at me. He didn't throw it with great force but with a pretty good amount of force. My right hand was extended toward him to receive the card. My thumb and index finger were very lightly in contact with each other. The card flew through the air for about 2 feet maybe a little bit more or less. It ended up going right between my thumb and index finger and stuck there. We both were surprised at this unlikely occurrence.
I was thinking if you tried to duplicate that with two people and they had a big stack of cards that were similar to what we were using you might try all day and never succeed. I don't know what the chances are of that happening but they were probably less than one in 10,000.

Make as many mistakes as you can as quickly as you can. We want to make sure that we make a great enough number of mistakes in a given amount of time so that we can be successful.

Depending on the skill of the person throwing the card the odds could be much lower then that. There was a recent video a japanese man who mastered the art of throwing business cards. He's accurate enough to snuff a candle flame with a card. Now, granted, people with that kind of talent are most definitely rare but if anyone could recreate your scenario he would be the guy to do it
I've had a similar situation happen to me. Was sitting at a friends house playing some tiger woods with a few friends. A buddy of mine across the room asked me to toss him a lighter for his smoke. I grabbed the bic from the table in front of me, tossed it with a slight flick of the wrist, right at the moment he happened to look away. The lighter took a nice graceful arc and landed smack in his open hand with the flint ready to be struck by his thumb.
I've never been able to do it again, but each time someone asks me to toss a lighter, I always try
Where I'm from we only have one bit of advice for new comers: "If you hear banjos, turn and run".
