New Project
Hello out there!
I am starting an English Conversation school here in Japan. I got a good deal on a copy of Office 2000 Developer's Edition to handle the school's administration. But, I don't know $#@& about VB. I need help setting up a database to keep track of students and staff, a module to schedule classes and I need to produce report cards and receipts. I hope to tie it all into a simple accounting system that can keep track of sales and expenses.
Upon registering with the school, the staff will enter in the student's personal info then and choose from a menu of class options (twice/month, 4 times/month. etc.). Each month after that, they can modify their choice (i.e.; increase or reduce the number of classes they wish to take.) Also, they should be able to carry over unused classes to the next month. Upon receipt of payment, a receipt should be generated and the amount entered into the sales column of the accounting module (maybe Excel?)
I would like to be able to enter in the scheduling information through some automated routine and have that schedule available for data entry of student reservations by staff.
At any time, a student can reserve a place in a lesson from the schedule. The maximum class size may vary from 4 - 8. Also, each student is entitled to one couseling session/month at no charge. After the counseling session a Word document should be generated outlining the student's strengths, weaknesses and learning goals (Ideally from a pull down menu of comments chosen by the teacher.)
Finally, I would like the ability to integrate an e-mail homework service that allows students to send their completed assignments to their teacher and have the corrections and comments sent back.
I don't know how large or complex this project is. I intend for it to be run on a single PC in the beginning and perhaps network 2 or 3 more PCs within the school. Obviously, I would like to restrict access to most of the data and features to myself.
Any thoughts on the simplest, fastest and most efficient way to achieve these goals would be greatly appreciated. From skimming through the posts on this site, I have confidence that I came to the right place.

Sounds pretty complex to me Especially if you know nothing about VB.
Are you using just VBA that comes with Office 2000 to do this? Or do you also have a full copy of Visual Basic 6 professional/enterprise edition?
Are you allowing students to use this to schedule their own classes, or is a staff member going to be doing this for them?

Thanks for the reply hellswraith, I'm just using the VB in Office. And, staff will enter all information. The e-mail module will be a later add-on.

Sounds like a fun project!
This is a really neat project. If your other offers of help don't work out, let me know. I'd used MS-Access. You would be able to do everything you want with it.
