1.74Mb Floppy Disk...Huh?
Here's a link for a utility that supposedly will expand a 1.44Mb floppy to 1.74Mb....
I haven't tried it yet, not even sure if it works. I thought I'd post link for those who are interested.
(Look in the "Free Stuff" section)

This utility would only be any good if it made them into 250Mb disks Now that would be cool

It would be good though. A damn sight cheaper than Zip disks and a free utility that converts them to the same capacity. Maybe one day......*dreams again*

All those technologies are right around the corner. Media the size of a floppy will hold gigs of data.....it won't be long before we are all using this technology.

Has anyone heard of Holographic 3D Storage? Apparantly, it can hold terebytes of data in a unit the size of a sugar cube.

I haven't heard about that technology....The last thing I heard about in the news was something about IBM's 400-500 gig harddrives. The bigger the better I guess, but can you imagine trying to defrag something like that.....you might want to think about taking a vacation after getting a defrag started

Megatron yep i heard that too. I also heard that IBM have calculated simple trigonometrical equations with a slug brain wired into a 286 micro. Poor slug though.
The other day I invented a data storage device that could contain an almost unlimited amount of information and was impervious to hackers, and coffee spillage, but I thought nah, screw it no-one would want one of these so I threw it away.
My pedal powered analog AI engine is coming along nicely though!

After scanning my memory banks I recalled an article about some geeks working on a storage device the size of a sugar cube that would hold terrabytes of data. The device is made up of some organic stuff and works on light impulses. They got it to the stage where it can store data for a few hours, then it starts losing the data. The other problem is how to build the device into a pc. But who knows, maybe soon well have some quantum warp drive that will be able to automatically expand with our needs. Yeah right.
Today is yesterday's tomorrow

Megatron. Since when have you been voted in as President? I didn't get to vote in that election.

spetnik - Your right....(Never checked it....that was kinda stupid)
Here's a link for a different utility....(same purpose, and these links have been checked). Looks like there are a couple of diffrent programs to format floppies to their max. size. Look at:
MAXIDisk v4.20 - Floppy Disk Expander for Windows
Alkonsoft MaxFormat v1.22 - Diskette formatting util

Ya, the holocube has been something that has been going on for several years now. There is also work being done now using DNA as storage.

MidgetsBro...why aim so low (vice-president) when its your birth given right to become President....i'll support you all the way!
MidgetsBro for President! We dont need a self-elected tyrant here.....i'd put myself up for being president but being Australian prevents me from doing so (I live in a country full of idiots who voted to remain under a monarchy as it works so well for us...<sarcasm implied>)
