I can't say I'm happy about this. This is the one site where I do not block the ads or anything, but with this new add-on I doubt that will be the case for much longer.

Also, here's why I think there should be an FF add-on that'll remove these tags:
    http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=604559

To me there's just way too many links, it makes me go cross eyed and until I have an extension or these are removed, I will avoid threads like above.

your signature alone has more links than that whole thread.

Edited: Different browsers may be displaying things differently. Look at post #11 below for a screenshot of what I'm seeing.

Example 1 & 4 are identical, but displayed differently. Something is broke I think. This just started with the ad words addition. I have referenced this link from vbAccelerator several times and never before seen the behavior exhibited.

Example 1: The same URL using the Insert Link button in the editor

Example 2: This is same link using the noparse tag
    http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/vb/code/Libraries/Subclassing/Tile_a_Bitmap_Into_a_TextBox/article.asp

Example 3: This is the same link simply allowing option to "Automatically parse links in text"
    http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/vb...ox/article.asp

Example 4: The same URL using the Insert Link button in the editor

Is it just me or did I do something wrong? For those that know this stuff inside and out, simply hit the quote and look at the tags I used.
we think this is resolved now. We would appreciate confirmation if it is in fact resolved. Thanks

nothing has been removed. The function was written so that no post would have more than two keywords linked, and no page load would have more than six.

When I posted almost every other word was a link, now virtually none of them are. I guess I should have taken a screenshot instead of just linking.

It's because you posted via quick reply. In order to do this we had to use the same event as BB code parsing. That event fires both on quick reply and on page refresh. Our function is written in two parts. Only one part fires on submittal of quick reply. The second part, which checks for number of links and also checks for already existing links so it doesn't link them again, fires only on long reply or a page refresh.

Why is that and hy do we need them at all? It appears that nobody got definite answer so far.
the same reason we need any ads. It supports the site. If the post of yours above were the first post in this thread, then two of them would have been links, but the limit has been exceeded with the first keyword of yours being linked. The restrictions we put on this was no more than two links per post, and no more than six per page load. So that means if there are three posts each containing two or more keywords, the fourth post will not display links regardless of how many keywords it contains. And regardless of how many keywords they contain, none of the first three will have more than two links added

What does QuickReply have to do with how many AdWord links I was seeing in the thread (since I haven't posted in that thread I had the link to, obviously the posts weren't mine)?

What I was saying was in this thread: http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=604559 earlier this morning it was just filled with AdWord links in everyone's posts top to bottom. So I posted the link here as an example, then by the time you viewed that thread all but a few of those AdWord links were gone and you commented on that, I then followed up on your comment stating that yes, all those AdWord links were basically gone (there were 3 or 4 in the entire thread) by that time, I guess I should have taken a screenshot of the thread this morning to get the point across instead of just linking to the thread.

in any case there should be no more than six per page load, and no more than two per post. If you find more than that, please let us know as long as it does not involve a post you added via quick reply, without a subsequent page refresh.

They are small and dont require a click. Much less then any other site with keyword ads. Plus only a few per thread. Not like serveral per post like on other sites.

If this is the small price we have to pay for keeping VBF up and running then so be it.

    Re: AdWords Poison!!

Why is AdWord's linking the 'atl' in the word greatly?

I also noticed it'll link the '.Net' in Tommy.Net's username. AdWords shouldn't be doing this, it looks very unprofessional.

    Re: AdWords Poison!!

Seems the max requirement has been hit in this thread so no more keyword linking.

    vb vb.net config etc

Edit: Hmm, thats 7 for the thread

Edit 2: Its gone with the refresh of the page.

Appears that things are working properly now.

It appears so, the same URL on post 4 of this thread and the thread linked to in post #14 no longer parse the url incorrectly.

I do agree with others where the entire URL may be ad-word linked, thus preventing clicking on the intended link at all because the ad pops up under the cursor. Maybe consideration should be given to, at the very least, preventing ad-word linking in URL tag enclosed text?

Edited: I may have misunderstood your comment. I brought this up twice before also and in post #62 above, it sounds like that could go away when the entire URL is AdWord linked (hope so, else what's the point of providing a link if you can't access it?)
But if you are talking about how/when AdWord links are created, these explain it well I think

Only until you refresh the page. Example:Greatly. That appeared linked upon submittal of quick reply. Quick page refresh and it's gone. I explain why that is earlier in the thread. However it is still linking keywords at the beginning of the string, but not in the middle. We are working on that.

It doesn't matter how many times I click reply, it's still linking on "atl" in the word "greatly" I also noticed it linked the 'atl' in the word 'boatload' in a post I hadn't viewed until just this morning, it's an adword thing not a browser & refresh problem

    Re: AdWords Poison!!

While I do not entirely agree with the title of the thread as i understand and agree with the financial needs of a forum, I am running into some issues that have made me much less frequent on the forums.

Whenever I load a new forum page, or go back to a page, I encounter a long delay in the page loading. I took a screenshot this morning and narrowed it down to what I am seeing in the status bar. This is happening both in Firefox 3.5.8, IE 7/8 w/all service packs. Sometimes it is GoogleAnalytics that remains in the status bar. The behaviour that is the most problematic is that I cannot click on the Search, Forum Tools, QuickLinks, or any item that has a menu until it is done loading. It has taken up to 3 minutes to complete.

Other info, we have a proxy/firewall (SonicWALL) and CA antivirus - both are network administered, not local.

If you need any other info, let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this issue and thank you for a wonderful forum - this forum has IMHO made me a better developer. Keep up the good work!! (two strokes for a poke rule!!)

Is anyone else having slow loads and seeing the same thing in the status bar? It is easier for us to go back and get attention if we can confirm it isn't an isolated issue.

    Thanks,

    Hey Brad,

As I mentioned to dminder in another thread, I have not seen any of these issues. In fairness, I use Google Chrome to look at VBForums, and I noticed that this was not listed on dminder's list of web browsers that were tried.
