[RESOLVED] Process Credit Card Transaction

On certain website you can buy things online or topup an account using your credit card. Your credit card get's charged directly from their website.

I want to create a website which allows people to purchase products dirrectly from the website but first I need to ask,

how is this done?

How do I charge the credit card and get confirmation that transaction went through?

It depends on which credit cards you want to transact and what country your in but generally there is a "gateway" provider that stands between your site and the banks. The providers charge a fee and have different methods of interacting with them. Most offer both payment pages you can send people to and methods to integrate your site pages to pass a transaction to them. You do need to be registered with a bank to be able to transact credit cards generally called merchant facilities for your business.

If your not a business able to take credit cards and don't want to be one then you can use Pay Pal.

How do I find these "gateway" providers? Is it controlled by the bank and I just call them?

I suggest to go with a provider in your country I googled "credit card gateway america" and got several services. You could also contact your bank or search their website as it's possible that they have solutions aswell.

Out of interest, and so that other people can learn, you might want to think about noting the providers that you have found.

One common one for instance is PayPal.
