    dx8 stuff

    I am working on a strategy type game, standard rts. I was using dx7 but I thought what the hell, ill use the latest technology DirectDraw seems to have been removed from dx8. I started to figure out how to do my 2d stuff with d3d, but the dx8 sdk tutorials really suck. Are there some better ones out there?

    If you really intend to work with DX8, those SDK tutorials might become your best friend, because MS supplies ready to run projects for each tutorial, which are GREAT for testing ideas.

    Go to http://www.vbexplorer.com/directx4vb/ for some better tutorials.

    Just a warning though. Just because its in 2D, doesnt mean it will be as fast as DirectDraw was. A "Tile" in D3D8, even in 2D, requires 2 triangles, and the numbers add up. A 25x25 map contains 1152 triangles. 50x50 goes up to 4802, and that framerate is death to any video card thats 2 years old =).

    thats stuff helped but i still cant figure out how to draw an image to the screen from a file, help?
