Darwin Awards!
The 2009 winner is
(26 September 2009, Belgium) The city of Dinant is the backdrop for this rare Double Darwin Award. Two bankrobbers attempting to make a sizeable withdrawal from an ATM died when they overestimated the quantity of dynamite needed for the explosion. The blast demolished the building the bank was housed in. Nobody else was in the building at the time of the attack.
Robber One was rushed to the hospital with severe head trauma; he died shortly after arrival. Investigators initially assumed that his accomplice had managed a getway, but the second bungler's body was excavated from the debris twelve hours later. Would-be Robbers One and Two weren't exactly impoverished--their getaway car was a BMW.
Other "winners" included:
A Florida man, “Shawn M.,” left a Pompano Beach bar with a full bladder. Rather than waiting, he pulled off to the side of the road, put his hand on the divider and jumped over the low concrete wall and fell 65 feet to his death.
Roseanne T., 50, sped along on her moped, raced through a Highway Patrol road block set up for a flash flood and crashed into an overflowing creek. Police pulled her to safety, but she raced back to save her moped . . . and drowned.
In Minnesota, Lucas William Stenning, 32, attempted to stage an accident to get prescription painkillers. His plan failed when his dash in front of a moving vehicle ended in his death. On the other hand, by dying he succeeded in dodging charges for failing to sign up as a registered sex offender.
Everything that has a computer in will fail. Everything in your life, from a watch to a car to, you know, a radio, to an iPhone, it will fail if it has a computer in it. They should kill the people who made those things.- 'Woz'
