VB6 in Win7 XP Mode
I have installed Windows XP mode onto a Win7 Ultimate laptop and I am trying to get VB6 to work under it. When I try to use the deployment wizard it first asks to save the application then recompile. At this point it fails with'Unexpected error number 80004005 has occurred. Automation error. Unspecified error'. This application works ok on an XP machine so I know the code is ok. Can anyone advise??? Thanks

Re: VB6 in Win7 XP Mode
Moved To Application Deployment
I'm sure the deployment wizard simply does not know how to deal with Win7...have you tried a different installer (like Inno or something)?

Re: VB6 in Win7 XP Mode
Thanks for the quick reply. No I have not tried any other compiler, I am trying to use VB straight out of the box. According to all I have seen, running VB6 in 'Win7 XP mode' should work. The error is so vague I do not know if it is the actual compiler or the deployment element! I will look into something like InstallShield. Many thanks again

Re: VB6 in Win7 XP Mode
I will see later on if I can figure out or find a solution to this problem. If I find a solution it would be a great idea to it to the tutorial I'm thinking of writing on how to get vb6.0 code/projects to run correctly under Vista/Win 7.

Re: VB6 in Win7 XP Mode
Can you clarify this problem a little further?
It sounds as if you have installed VB6 into "XP Mode" on Windows 7. From there you are writing and compiling programs, and then using PDW to package them. This is what is failing.
Are you running PDW from the Start Menu or are you running it from within the IDE (Add-ins menu)?

Re: VB6 in Win7 XP Mode
Thanks Guys, the issue is now resolved. My laptop has two hard drives and XP Mode creates a virtual 'C' drive to which I installed VB6. The physical hard drives then appear as network drives. I ran VB6 and accessed the VB project on the network drive (physical drive 'D') which failed to deploy. I tried copying the project to the virtual drive and it then worked!!! Why this should be any different to my desktop setup is a mistery but it seems to be working ok now.

Re: VB6 in Win7 XP Mode
I am using VB6 and deployment in Windows 7 (not in XP mode)
Took me a while to figure out, but I discoverd that VB6 (and a lot of other things) will not run from the shared drive on a home network - even on the same machine.
The error message was "Invalid picture".
This happened after a recent windows security update.
I now even have to OK an Internet Explorer "suspicious page" on other machines when using the shared drive for the first time.
I have tried all sorts of security tweaks without succes.
