Resolved [RESOLVED] Is Adobe CS3 really compatible with Win7?

    Hello everyone,
I've searched on the net and Microsoft website and every source indicates that Adobe CS3 is fully compatible with Win7. However, I ran into problems after installing CS3 on Win7 machines.
As a test, I installed CS3 on 2 machines running Win7 Ultimate. One has an AMD Athlon II x2 running win7 ultimate x64 and the other one has Intel Core 2 Duo running Win7 ultimate x86. Adobe CS3 installed and ran with no problems initially on both machine. However, after running Adobe update to bring CS3 up to date, both machines can no longer access the Internet. Ipconfig /all looks OK. Win7 doesn't detect any problem with the network, but it just doesn't get any where (intranet and internet). No other software/updates were installed from the time the the machines worked till they broke except the Adobe CS3 updates as mentioned above. I ran system restore on both machine to restore them back to the time prior to CS3 installation, and they can connect again. However, this also removes the CS3 suite from the computer.
So my conclusion is Adobe CS3 updates were the cause.
So my question is, has any of you experienced the same thing?

Hmm, now that you mention it, that may be the issue I have with Windows 7 as well.

Every time I boot the machine up in Windows 7 (don't have the issue with Ubuntu) I have to disable and then re-enable the network adapter before I can connect to the internet.

I believe I can access my router and anything on the LAN just fine but, until I disable and re-enable, I cannot access the internet.

I can't remember if I am using CS2 or 3 at home, though, and it was installed before I upgraded to Windows 7.

Adobe CS4 seems to conflict with the Windows 7 Aero theme but Adobe CS3 works perfectly on Windows 7.

Try uninstalling that Adobe update and see if it helps?

    Edit
Also can you provide the link from where you downloaded the link?

There is no link... I updated CS3 from within the application itself. I opened Photoshop (or Illustrator...), go to Help menu and click on "Update". Adobe updater starts and checks for any updates. If there are, it will show a list of available updates from which I can choose to download and install. I select all of them every time.

I guess then I won't be able to test that link

Guess you will have to re-install CS3 and not update it this time...

Yes, Adobe CS4 is broken if you have your DPI set to anything above standard (96dpi). This is a problem since dpi, as opposed to resolution is the new standard for scaling programs.

    @ stanav,

DreamWeaver and Flash CS3 run fine on Win7 I installed them on my Win7 laptop.

    Edit:

I didn't experience any problems installing the software on my laptop.

My laptop is an ASUS Notebook N60Dp Series, AMD Turion II Dual-Core Mobile M520 2.30GHz processor, 4.00 GB RAM 64-bit operating system, Win 7 Professional.

Am I missing something, why did you do an update? I didn't.

Re: Is Adobe CS3 really compatible with Win7?

@Nightwalker: As I said in my original post, CS3 ran fine after the initial installation. The problem came only after the updates of CS3 installed. And why do I have to install the updates? Because I'm an IT guy and part of my job is to test out new software version for any potential problems and inform the IT director so that he can make final decision on upgrading the whole company to the new version or not. My company's art department is still using CS3 and I know that it had many bugs in the original release which are fixed after installing the updates. So it's a procedure that I have to follow. Besides, the first thing when we call for support on any piece of software they will almost always ask if we have the latest updates installed.

What I'm getting at is that the updates are most likely the cause of the problem. Also, if your company is thinking of upgrading to CS4 I suggest seeing if you are to do a try before you buy although, being a company it probably can afford it. I run in to a problems with CS4 programs stopping after a while and shutting down.

    Edit:

I just found this! Although, while it doesn't have anything partaining to updates on there as time goes by there should be more info added.

Also, as one poster on there said

I'm going to Win 7 x64 next month [I'm using Vista x64 now as a stop gap] and I know that I do have a few apps and hardware that may hickup in Win 7 [mostly because they have hicked up in Vista as well. [So now you know why large companies wait a year or so - in some cases - to go to a new OS. Test first before switching.]
Give Adobe time and CS3, CS4, etc will be better suited to run on Win 7 afterall Rome wasn't built in a day.

Re: Is Adobe CS3 really compatible with Win7?

After searching the Internet again, I found what's the problem is and how to work around it. The freaking Bonjour service installed by CS3 is what causes the problem. To work around, I just have to disable the service and then delete the Bonjour files. Information I found was from this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1634806#1634806

    Thread resolved.
