    IP-address

    Please help !!

Yesterday I was told that i can connect to another computer over the internet only by using it's IP-address.
I tried that and it works. So far so good..........
But every time you make a new connection with the internet your machine has another IP-address !

    How can i implement this in a VB-application ?

    Thanks in advance.

Every time you connect to the internet with a dial up connection your IP address is different. If you have a cable modem or DSL, then it is constant. Although they change them every once and a while for security reasons. So, are you asking how you will know someone is on if their IP address is different or something?

    IP-adress

    Thanks for answering my question.

The only thing I wanna do is make a connection between 2 computers over the net.

I'm running sql-server and the client has a vb-application that has to make a connection with my computer.
When i try this (the client) by using the hostname of my computer it doens't work (HOST UNKNOWN) but using the IP-ADDRESS doens't look so good because it changes many times.

In the books on-line of sql-server they telling it's possible.

well you could have the host monitor its ip address, and if it changes upload it somewhere, and have the client check this for the ip address

You could buy a static ip address, or use a dynamic DNS like chenko suggested (probably cheaper).

    Get these: Mozilla Opera OpenBSD
I have books for sale: "MCSD in a Nutshell" and "VB Distributed Exam Cram" - PM me for details. Will also trade for a decent ATX Pentium 2 MB/CPU/RAM combo.

I think he is talking about users other than himself, so the static IP address might not be able to work.

    domain name..

well there's a program which allows you to connect to a server and get your own FREE domain and everytime your IP changes your computer will send the information to the server. so, static domain, dynamic ip.
