Resolved [RESOLVED] Uploading Zip files. To Big?!

I think it is rediculus that the biggest zip file you can upload is only 500KB! one of my zip files containing pics, and 3 forms with alot of code is more that 1MB. I Think it should be allowd to be any size, even though some people have dial up. I right now have dial up, but if i really need the example, i would be willing to wait. And even if some people didnt want to download it because of the size, people that i need to test games i make, would have to download like 40 zip files just to get the pics (the game im working on is a huge project, with over 10000 pics)!

We don't have unlimited storage and things uploaded to our forum stay forever and that adds up after a while, hence the small limit. You can however upload your files to sites like www.senduit.com or www.speedyshare.com and many others and people can download from there once they know the key or file name.

    Hey,

At the end of the day, the code that you create is not going to generate a particularly big file, it is the images that are going to take up the majority of the space. To that end, you can always upload only the code portion of your application, and then point people to the images that you have used.

This is a coding forum at the end of the day, and if you are posting an example, people are more likely to be interested in "how" you have done something, not necessarily how you have made it look.

Like gep said this is a coding forum! We will not need to see any images until they help explain a coding/runtime problem your are having.

ok. i see the point MartinLiss said. Nightwalker83 and gep13, i need to upload projects so people can test them, and help me make them better. They are Video Games. Not simple projects, but games.

That is generally the wrong approach to take, and you are unlikely to get much help that way. As they are games some people will look, but most likely they wont be the people who could help the most.

Rather than upload an entire project and say "test this" or "make this better", you should try to ask specific questions, and only show us the code that is relevant to the question - which in most cases will easily fit on a screen, so you don't even need attachments.

That way is better for those of us who help, because we can focus on the actual issues - rather than spending time downloading and decompressing, then trying to find the relevant code (which takes a while, and we may not even find it), and only then spend our time trying to help.

It is also better for you, because as part of posting the code you re-read it, and may find the issue (or just narrow down the likely causes). You also get clearer explanations from us, which means you are more likely to learn to be able to solve it yourself in future.

    Hey,

Can't agree with si more. Trying to follow threads on here is hard enough at the best of times, without having to try and understand a complete project. The best help is received more multiple distinct threads that have a clear problem.

Ok. I didnt mean for them to make it better. I wanted people to give me thier opinions about it and use that to make it better. But ok. I see what you mean. Thank you.

    Hey,

The other thing to mention is that if you are not asking directly for help, and you just want to give people access to the game, it isn't really the responsibility of VBForums to host that file for you. If they did, they would be inundated with large files that would consume all their server space.

By all means post a thread to say that you have a game you want people to take a look at, and then provide a link to somewhere that the actual file is hosted.
