    Angry Really bad courier company

Right, here is what any normal courier company should do:

    1) Attempt to deliver
    2) If delivery failed, take back to depot and wait for me to ask for redelivery or collect in person, this should be easy and my desired action should be delayed for now longer than it needs to.

But this is what is actually happening:

I ordered an item from Amazon UK, for some unknown reason they decided to deliver my item using the courier 'Home Delivery Network Ltd'. They do the usual attempted delivery, but no one was in, so they have taken it back to their depot, not a problem I think.

The item is for my girlfriends birthday tomorrow (Tuesday), So I attempt to use the couriers appalling online rebooking system that says I can have the item redelivered on Tuesday, this is too late and no one will be in. There is also an option to pick it up from the depot, but they won't let me do this until Wednesday... why the hell not?!

In frustration I phone the local depot (after hours searching for a number) and asked the assistant if I can collect today, "Sorry, but we work by the computer system, and if that's what it says then you will have to wait". Are they trying to say their warehouse is so disorganised that it takes 3 days to find my package and put it to one side?

I'm tempted to ride the 50+ miles round trip in the pouring rain this evening (Monday, 2 days before they will allow me to collect) and just say the computer said I can collect today. I won't mention I've phoned up, surely they won't send me back without my parcel?

What should I do? I'm not usually one to make such a fuss, but in this instance it seemed only right.

Remember, don't touch Home Delivery Network Ltd with a barge pole.

It's usually because the depot they deliver from and the depot you can pick up from are two different places. Usually the 'pick up' depot is centralised and deliveries are carried out from a variety of satellite depots. Either that or they don't actually return it to the depot but keep it on the van. They've taken it back to the delivery depot (or left it on the van) on the assumption that most customers will prefer a redlivery. After a few days they pass it to the pick up depot because, if you haven't asked for a redlivery by then, you're probably going to prefer a pick up.

None of that helps you much and I personally agree that it's not a freindly system but it's actually not unusual. And I wouldn't ride the 50 miles if I were you because it will almost certainly be a waste of your time.

It sucks, but there you have it. If you can speak to the right person you might be able to find out where your package actually is and gho there but I wouldn't count on it.

Find out what van the item is in, then proceed to hijack the van.

I would say don't rush things. Just explain to your girlfriend the situation so she knows why you're not giving her the present that you planned to on time. If you happen to get it on time great. If not then it's not that big a deal. Your girlfriend won't suffer too much getting the present one or two days later. In the future you can specify a different delivery system if you like.

Perhaps not, but you can bet she will make ILMV suffer. Buy her another gift ASAP and save the undelivered gift for Christmas.

By the way, your package was inadvertently delivered to my place of business a couple hours ago.

When did you order this gift that you are down to the wire in getting it on time for your GF birthday? She probably won't be thrilled to find out you wanted till the last very second possible to order it, only to not get it on time.

If I was you... I might make that trip depending how badly I wanted that parcel...

What's there to loose? As it is you are not going to get that parcel... If you know what I mean...

BUT WHAT IF YOU GET IT?

I agree.. the only problem being telling her you waited till the last minute to order it, only to have to drive 50 miles to pick it up in order to give it to her on time for her birthday usually doesn't go over too well with the females.

Instead of them being happy you would work so hard to make the situation right, they just will look at what you did wrong to make it the situation it was in the first place

I recommend that you break up with her and leave the country as soon as you can.

Kleinma... you don't drive a motorbike, you ride it

I ordered the item over a week ago, and choose the free delivery, both of these because I have almost no money.

But get this, I rode to the depot, had a pop at the assistant and they "magically" found my parcel.

    Birthday saved!

I am sorry. The vehicle ILMV "rides" is now forever burned into my memory. I had to get rid of something else to be able to remember you ride a motorbike, so I erased all working knowledge I had of VB6.

    Pretty small sacrifice then.
