What will be SmartPhone OS of the future?

Which one do you think will be most popular Smart Phone OS in near future?

In terms of investment [gaining expertise, buying phone/hardware etc.]

I deliberately left iPhone/Mac because I think it is bit different from other platforms. There will be always some diehard Apple fans anyway. The rest will be torn between other open source platforms available.

Although Symbian is probably the largest at the moment, its biggest patron, Linux is now launching Linux Maemo [in N900 handset] so I doubt whether Symbian will thrive in future.

Microsoft's Win Mobile will probably see a natural death [so not included in the poll ]

It will be interesting to see if Palm can regain its marketshare via new Web OS.

I dont see why you've left out platforms, such as Windows Mobile (or Phone, as its been renamed to). It's as if I'd create a poll on what the best soccer team is, and leave teams out because I plain don't like them (or claim they're no good). Thats for the poll results to show.

I agree Atheist, I think it will be the iPhone OS, regardless of which fool would buy an iPhone, I would like to think that more would choose the Apple product over a vast array of frankenstein Windows smart phones.

True, but you cannot say that only Apple fan boys are going to purchase the iPhone? Many people aren't Windows fan boys and have a Pocket PC?

iPhone has always been a different segment. The Mac and PC emerged at same time during 1970s yet Mac remained a niche market and PC dominated. They are also proprietary software unlike Android, Symbian, Linux Maemo etc.

Of course, both Win mobile and Blackberry are proprietary too.

Your arguments are flawed, what's the fact that most of the computer market is Windows got to do with your poll? The iPhone has NEVER been a different segment, it is a mobile phone that provides other features such as internet, email, maps, calendar, fart apps etc!

I don't think it even matters that the iPhone OS is available for only one device, the fact that Apple sold 13.7 million iPhones in 2008, that's a huge amount of people who are using a smart phone.

And Windows Mobile isn't proprietary?
