Monitoring traffic

Hi guys, Im not sure Im in the right forum here so my apologies if Im not.
Im starting a totally new area of learning. I am wanting to get a start on programming VB 6.0 to monitor what files/info is being uploaded through my broadband connection.
The purpose of this is for experience and to see where it takes me.
I have always had a paranoia with respect to what leaves my pc, so I am wanting to try and monitor my traffic.
Can someone please point me in the right direction to get started on this.
Is there s sample app or some previous thread/s that I can learn from. Dont necessarily want an app that does it all already but something that gets me in the right direction.
I am greatful for any help I get here.

To monitor traffic, you could try this:

Then, it's just a matter of filtering the traffic to only show uploads or whatever you want to show.
