Karma
The cosmic forces have for many years punished me (for being such a jerk) by making something aggravating happen every time I purchase an expensive piece of computer hardware.
So today I buy a nice shiny new laptop (17" widescreen) and shortly thereafter find out that my route firmware has a bug where it refuses to accept ANY password, especially the one that I set 15 seconds previously.
Then after about 2 hours of spitting, throwing things and swearing loudly, I manage to get everything on the network again - apart from my lovely little netbook, which promptly decided to go on strike and won't connect to the WIFI even after actual prayers to our Holy Father.
I have therefore decided to send Bill Gates £1000 of my hard earned in the hope that this may go some way to redressing the Karmic balance and restore me to the land of the deserved.
But oh lordy it's a nice laptop.
I don't live here any more.

Well, to be honest, I was looking for the model number, but that's my fault since I didn't explicitly asked for it, instead trying to advertise my love for my laptop...
Also, are you using any external wireless usb adaptors, or are you using the inbuilt wifi adaptor? If you are using the built in, it's less likely to have faults, but then again, depending on how old it is, it might be slow and troublesome. Just a heads up.

Aha! Just as I suspected. Belkin is like marmite to people, some people like them, and people (like me) cannot stand their products. I had a Belkin router before, and it has caused us endless problems. Finally I got it replaced with this Netgear router and I have yet to have any serious problems like I had with Belkin. Don't get me wrong too, some people do have problems with Netgear, but I haven't heard of any of my model. If you dislike Netgear for some reason, you can always try Linksys.
Or, if you want to save money, have you tried accessing the router's address and try upgrading the firmware and/or resetting the router?
If you are using Windows, bring up the Run window by pressing [WIN]+[R], and type
Code:
cmd /k ipconfig /all
, and when the program is done, look for the IP Address for the Default Gateway under all that information.
In linux, it's even easier, all you do is type into any terminal, wait for it to finish, and look "default" under the destination column. That is your router's IP address.
This needs to be done on a PC with a connection to the router or it won't work.

They do have good free support though.
