MCTS : Help me choose the exam please.
HI every one,
I want to follwo MCTS. I am an experienced web application developer(PHP). I would do .NET as well. I wan to earn Microsoft certification to make my career strength.
Friends, I went throught the Microsoft Certification website in the link here . I can see some of my interested topics on the page. for example..
- MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications
- Exam 70-536
and - Exam 70-528
- MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ADO .NET Applications
- Exam 70-536
and - Exam 70-561
- MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications
- Exam 70-536
and - Exam 70-562
What subject would be beneficial for me? Is it enough if i completed one topic here? please guide me.
if i choose one topic I should full fill the requiremnts for 2 exams right?

Re: MCTS : Help me choose the exam please.
I see no reason to do the first pair, as they are for framework 2.0. If you have the time to kill, and somebody else is paying for the tests, then I suppose there would be some advantage to doing both 2.0 and 3.5, but otherwise I wouldn't drop back to 2.0.
You should also add [Serious] to the thread title, as this is CC.
Actually, the whole thread should be moved to General Developer, which if it happens, I think I will get rid of the previous line....and then this one.
Your mention of being a web developer makes me think that the ASP is more appropriate than ADO, though I would guess that you would make use of either one for most Web apps.

hi friend. Thanks for the useful tips and quick response.
Btw, i mention the ado.net coz, i am much involved in database programming. But i am not sure is it imprtab for me than the asp.net because i am not knowing these syllabus deeply. And i want to think about earning the certification quickly and easily. now my choiceses narrowd in to two selections. Asp.net and ado.net. Now please help me to choose between them as adatabase oriented application developer for web.

Re: MCTS : Help me choose the exam please.
That would be a tough call. However, you mentioned that you want earn the certification quickly and easily, and you suggest that you would do that more readily in ASP than ADO, so that would be my answer. However, I would guess that the ADO would have broader applicability than the ASP. After all, ASP is web (I have never used it), but ADO is web or desktop or portable or other.

I have no idea. You might check out the General Developer section, as questions about MCTS come up there every now and then.

Moved to general developer - you'll have a better chance of more replies here.

* MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications
* MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ADO .NET Applications

Ok, that's exactly the opposite of what I would go for.
The funny thing about that post is that you get a real chance of flippant remarks in Chit-Chat, so it was good of Mendhak to move the thread here...but then he added a nearly flippant answer, too.
Apparently, he giveth and he taketh away.

Web applications in an older framework. Then web applications in a newer framework. Then advanced database concepts. Sounds alright to me.

Re: MCTS : Help me choose the exam please.
Personally I dont see why you would do a 2.0 exam and then a 3.5 exam in pretty much the exact same thing. I would say do the ASP.NET 3.5 exam and then do the ADO.NET 3.5 exam.

Re: MCTS : Help me choose the exam please.
Now am confused.
* MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications
* MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications
* MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ADO .NET Applications
Is it necessary I must sit for all these 3 exams to earn MCTS? or is it enough if i sit only for MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications in order to earn the certification?

Re: MCTS : Help me choose the exam please.
For MCTS, you must do 70-536 and 70-562. That's what I gleaned from this page.
Each of those is one certification, what you've listed (it seems).

Re: MCTS : Help me choose the exam please.
Hey,
To clarify...
Regardless of whether you are going down the .Net 2.0, or the .Net 3.5 route, you have to do the base exam, 70-536. This is a common exam which covers all the fundamentals of the .Net Framework, and since .Net 3.5 is an extension of .Net 2.0, what you cover in this exam is applicable in both.
Going forward, this is going to stop. .Net 4.0 certification isn't going to have the common foundation exam.
The other question is whether you want to extent the MCTS to an MCPD, as this may or may not alter the route that you take.
I personally have went down the MCPD route, and I have an MCPD in ASP.Net and Windows Form, and am working on the Enterprise Architect one just now. I opted to go down the .Net 2.0 route (mainly because that is what my company currently uses), and then I will do the .Net 3.5 route when I get a chance. The benefit of doing this is that you can do an upgrade exam to achieve the .Net 3.5 Status.
In order to achieve an MCPD in ASP.net you have to complete 3 exams. to achieve the MCTS in ASP.Net you need to do 2 exams.
Hope that helps, if not, feel free to ask some more questions, as I have looked into this quite a bit.
Gary

In order to obtain:
MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ASP .NET Applications
You have to sit two exams, 70-536 and 70-562.
If you then wanted to achieve:
MCTS: .NET Framework 3.5 ADO .NET Applications
You would only have to sit one additional exam which is 70-561.
