ANN:DVDsMobile - A Windows Mobile Application developed from scratch

Maarten Struys of Dot Net for Devices has produced a series of downloadable videos showing A Windows Mobile Application developed from scratch.

Maarten is a stalwart of Windows Mobile Development, and a major contributor to the How Do I for Devices videos.

I haven't looked in detail, but I would guess from experience these videos will be very useful, covering such topics from Menus to SQL Server access and replication. You can find the download page and descriptions here.

This is the first part of a series.

This is really advertising and pointing people to sites that compete with our sites. As such, these types of links are generally not allowed on this site. A moderator or the admins are likely to remove the links.

    sorry.

    Brad,

Can I ask which of Pete's links causes a violation?

I have often linked to the the "How Do I" Series in post that I have answered, as I have found them an invaluable source of information.

You I not be doing this?

    Hey,

That is the point I am trying to make.

The tutorials are very good, and I can't see a reason why we shouldn't link to them, that is why I was asking the question.

And there are no forums on either site.

The 'How Do I Videos' are a service from Microsoft, and Maartens stuff is done solely to help developers - he isn't trying to sell anything, or compete with other sites.

VBForums is a part of Internet.com, which has a number of other sties that offer tutorials, jobs, videos, and much more. That is why even thought VBForums might not have a feature it is still not necessarily allowed here. For example, you can find videos at http://www.internet.com/video

If a link directly answers a question being asked, we will often overlook it. If it is posted simply because it is a "cool" linke, but has not context to answering a question, then it is likely to get removed because a link from this site is valuable. Of course, it is at the moderator and admins' discretion as to how hard to enforce such rules.

If you find really good stuff, then have the person post it to an Internet.com site. For example, they can post tips or tricks here. Any VB or programming article that isn't marketing a product can be posted to Codeguru. Codeguru is an internet.com site, so linking to it is fine.

    Hey,

Ah, ok, I take your point. Will remember this for future.

As for the videos on Internet.com, I didn't know that there were any. I will need to go and take a look at those.

    Thanks

    Gary

    I should point out....

We have videos, we have tips and tricks, we have articles, we have project postings, we have job postings, we have a lot across the Internet.com network of sites. But then we have a lot of sites (100+) all aimed at developers and IT Pros.

My team and I are always looking for people to contribute articles on sites like Codeguru, to contribute code on sites like FreeVBCode.com, or to write articles for pay on some of our other sites like Developer.com.

    Hey,

Out of interest, is there a list of all the sites that fall under your umbrella?

http://www.vbforums.com/xxx will list most of the sites that are a part of Internet.com (that is simply a bad URL, so you'll go to the 404 page that lists them )

I oversee the developer sites for Internet.com. That is the stuff listed in the Developer Channel on that page give or take a few others.
