    Exclamation Gaming Consoles

ok which is the best or looking the goods!

Yes i've seen the other thread but it's talking about OS crap and frankly i just want the one with the most/best games on it i dont give 2 *****s about the OS it's running!

This is partially why the Playstation was so tops because it had heaps of choice as games!

Mu cousin worked on a game for MS's X-Box called Black and White i was speaking to him and he said that the one that looks as though it is going to be the best is Nintendo's Game Cube!

I've played Black and White and it's friggin choice as bro'!

Personally I would like to go with the playstation2 but it doesnt look like there's been a big change in quality and the games arent appealing to me! It seems it's feeding off playstation1 too much instead of going it's own way!

MS's X-Box should be cool. Lots of games already developed for it's release! Might go with this one. Why? Becuase if MS wanted it could buy out all the other companies anyway so if they want a market share there console is goiing to have to be pretty good! And i think Billy Boy wants a piece of this Home Entertainment Market so he'll enter it with something pretty strong and competing! And with Sega now quitting the market and going into designing games for the x-box could be interesting. If not Xbox2 will be the one for them!

Nintendo GameCube- Finally the nintendo boy's get it right and get rid of friggin cartridges and onto small cd's!
This looks the goer because of nintendoes already strong gaming experience. Bloody powerful and as far as i know it's just a gaming console not dvd, internet etc etc.

Indrema. Looked tops as powerful shame they're now DEFUNCT!

Sega DreamCast - The bullet finally suck in!

    Ahh hence the .net platform

Generate a vb app in vb.net, compile as a dos console, and deploy as a single file. Now it all makes sense

I have got a PS2, and I can assure you the quality is well improved, before you could make out the ploygons which actually created the object, be it a car or a person. The PS2 is super smoooooth. I currently only have one game Formula one ( I am totally brasic) and the instant replay is almost like watching telly.

The another good reason for getting PS2 is Grand Tourismo 3, which undoughtly in my mind will be the best ever game.

Not that I am a game nerd or anything ;)

I think the XBox has it taped on the hardware side, GameCube doesn't stand a chance IMO, cartridges are much less convenient than CD/DVDs.
The only disadvantage of the XBox is that you have to pay subscription to own one, DAMN YOU BILL GATES!!

    Pay a subscription!!!

And that, boys and girls, is why MS is the evil empire. There is no question about it.

Let's see... I pay a subscription why? I'm renting this box why? Could it be because you want to keep it hooked into your network so you can make sure I'm not ripping and burning games? Could it be because you want to keep track of my preferences for marketing reports? Could it be a blantant invasion of privacy?

    Well here we go...

If you really wanna know why Nintendo made the 64 a cartdidge based console is that Shigeru miyamoto and the other guys at the top didn't see the cd as a good enough thing at the time. they disapproved of the long loading times and general overall speed. They believe now that the technology is good enough and there pretty fine copper processor should help an 'ikkle
Also the PS2 with all layers and backgrounds 'n stuff can only handle about 4 million polygons whereas the gamecube can handle a pretty fine 20 million polygons on screen. and with Nintendo and Rare as developers little can go wrong. The XBox doesn't really interest me.
You gotta watch AntiTrust...for a character loosely based on Bill Gates they played him pretty well (including the assassinations and stuff!) Well thats just about it for me...

Just a few more thangs I have to get off my chest...
The PS2 pretty much flopped in Japan. Everyone bought the console but the games weren't being bought oh well...
The dreamcast just sucks ass, anything attached to Sega is bound to suck.
Gamecube-don't judge a book by it's cover (or name) Dolphin was the best name ever!

And can't we go back to the days of the SNES and NES.

and just to tell you don't forget about the Gameboy Advance.

    Cool, no subscription.

I am expecting WebTV (or Whatever MS calls it now) to be bundled with the XBox. I expect that you will get some stupid package deal when you buy the XBox that gives you one year of MSN or whatever. And while I can understand the idea of one box that does everything... I just don't see the point. I don't want to have to sink all my eggs in one basket, so I get stuff I don't want attached to stuff I do want.

I wonder if Genie will ever get off the ground. There you can build the box with everything you want. But anyway.

Oh, and I'm expecting Sony & AOL to give a package deal, too. *ralph*

While on the subject of SNES... I was wondering if anybody could help me name a game..

you were trying to destroy some robot thing, after a number of shots it's arm or the chest plate would fall off. The first level involved a robot, who when you shot his head, it fell off(not all of it), and a bubble or spiked-thing remained. You also had a choice of weapons. I think you got 2 or 3, there was one or two small weapons, and one or two large weapons. When firing a certain weapon, the projectile appeared as a red dot, that looked similar to a 'laser ball'.

I just found my SNES a few weeks ago, and can't seem to find this game, or even find the name of it.

    Thanks,
    Dennis

Oh, well, there is that, too, Parksie. GEnie was some GE Network, like FidoNet or something.

The Genie I'm talking about is another standard from Sun like Java. The point behind it is, all devices are ecoded with a base standard protocol and either networking/USB/Firewire support. It is plug-n-play on crack.

You have a computer. You slot a harddrive. No installing neccessary. The device will wake up when it is plugged in and trigger a discover. The computer will realize there is a new drive and install it. The harddrive will, in turn, configure itself to be in the computer.

You can then add a printer, scanner, camera, another computer. You could also start adding your PDA, you TV, your stereo, your toaster. It doesn't matter, every device knows what it is and what it is capable of, and will attempt to interact with any other device it is connected to on a hardware level. Now, if your OS won't support the toaster, well, too bad. The hardware gets along just fine.

As you can tell, this is a huge undertaking. And like Java, Sun isn't out to sell it, but out to make a standard.

    XBOX

No there is NO INTERNET SOFTWARE AT ALL!
MS will not even include a browser. This is a GAME Console. thats it.
its said that if you want to play games online..the software(game) will have an option click it...and your on. No chat rooms...nothing. There will be voice chat in some games.

    Price: $299
    release date : Nov 8th

    currently 20 games for launch

this will be the HOT setup..(as long as the damn thing doesnt over heat!)

I have a dreamcast. I am very impressed by it..Some games look just as good as the current PS2 games. if you want a cheap system..pick it up! its awsome! there is almost 200 title on the market for it too.
to bad Sega Bailed.....oh well..I am saving already for the Xbox..Screw sony. They made the PS2 so hard to program for that developers have bailed on PS2 completely

Munch's Odysee was to be a PS2 only game
then it went to be a PS2 & XBOX
now they dump the PS2 all together...couldnt stand the Dev Kit
sony has little support for the Developers thats why the
PS3 (which is already a prototype) is much easier to program for
(BTW: the ps3 has 16 Processors!!!! from what i read)

    my choice
    XBOX
or DC (for a temp system)
    JPnyc rocks!! (Just ask him!)

Well, I doubt anyone is going to sell it, but it will be possible to run Apache on the XBox. I just wish I could find the particulars right now.

If the specs for the XBox ever leak, then we will port Linux and/or NetBSD over.

    Have a look at this.

    Linux on the Dreamcast

Like I was saying, you could Linux on a toaster.

I am currently fighting with RedHat 6.1. I have to go with the local guys. RedHat is based here in Durham.

Yes, there was some net appliance. I wish I could remember the name of it. Anyway... there is a hack to add a hard drive to it. And from there, you can boot it to linux. It is small with a monochrome LCD screen, but makes a great auto unit for MP3s.

You could also put NetBSD on it. It just depends.

I'm wanting to learn my way around NetBSD. I'm wanting to put it on my finacées old PowerPC.

I was considering NetBSD or FreeBSD myself on the computer I am using now when I buy my new one. Just for the hell of it. I have Redhat on an older 200 mhz but its just sitting there collecting dust for the moment. With the talk of movie after affects companies moving into using Linux now, I was considering getting a good 3d program/renderer for Linux and just seeing how it performs on there. You know of any 3d programs for Linux?

    Red face geez

i agree Why did Nintendo go for Cartridges with the 64 but they've come to there senses this time!

ricmitch_uk: Convience. I dont think convience is too much of a matter do you? It's the same inconvience in getting a DVD out of the Packet as is The Game Cubes Disc! Unless you have mamoth size hands or soemthing!

Which is 8cm NINTENDO GAMECUBE Disc based on Matsu****a's Optical Disc Technology Approx. 1.5GB Capacity

Or it's the same inconvience as going down the shop to buy it!
Only inconvience is possibly burnt cd's! Which someone in China or Bali will find away around! And you shouldnt do that anyways!

    Geoff:
Well why didnt MS make a gaming console not a DVD player, Gaming console, internet, PC etc etc.
Yes Both Nintendo and MS will connect to the net but 1 nintendo doesnt have a commercial interest in the net making it less possible for it to have rubbish apps unlike MS could!

Also nintendo doesnt play DVD has a digital adapter for digital devices though!
Wont have a keyboard etc. accessories but will have wirless controls accessory!

For all you ppl follow this link it's the nintendo specs!

    http://www.nintendo.com/gamecube/specs.html
