    I received a letter this morning, informing me I have achieved a 2:1 Honours Degree!

    The latter.

    The way degrees gets graded over here is 1st is the best, 2:1 next, then 2:2, then 3rd, followed by failure.

    So I guess a failure Honors Degree wouldn't be too good.

    Historically an ordinary degree was the standard and an honours degree was an advanced classification - so it was better. These days everywhere does honours degrees and I think you'd be hard pressed to find somewhere that would offer an honours degree so it's pretty meaningless to be honest. I do remember one of my lecturers muttering something about our third year project having to have a real world application in order to qualify for an honours degree but that's certainly not true of other honours degree syllabi I've seen.

    I got a 2:1 hons, by the way. All the best people do. Anything less you're a loser and a 1st means you're a girly swot. That's what I think anyway.

    Phew, good job I got the result I got then, I certainly don't want to be a girly swot.

    My final year project was in fact a real world solution, in fact, 9 months on I am working full time for the company that I did it for
