    Copying VB6 Installation

I recently bought a new desktop running Vista, and I'd like to get my copy of VB6 on it. The problem? My CD is several hundred miles away. I have VB6 installed on my XP laptop, but I would prefer having it on my desktop.

Is there a way to copy my laptop's installation over to my desktop?

I've tried the naive approach of copying the Microsoft Visual Studio folder over, which (shockingly.) didn't work. After feeding it a library file [I'm sorry, I've forgotten which], launching VB6.exe gives "Unexpected error; quitting", even when run in compatibility mode for XP SP2.

You would have to know all the things it places in the registry, along with system files, etc. So no, you really need the installation program.

    Re: Copying VB6 Installation

As for legality, I haven't read through the EULA to make sure it's allowed--but morally speaking I bought the software and think it's fine to install it in this somewhat strange manner, if it's possible. It's circumventing the need for a plastic disc. I could almost certainly download a cracked image of the CD, but I won't.

Mostly, I was wondering if anyone out there has done this type of transfer successfully.

There is one legal way of doing it.

    1) Install vb6 from 'any' source to your pc. Feed it your licensed key.
    2) Uninstall from laptop.

Assuming the EULA is the same in your region as it is in mine, you actually don't need to un-install it from the other computer - you can have it installed on multiple computers, but are only allowed to use it on one at a time (and only the person it was licensed to).
