Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska
Effective July 26.
Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, announced that she would step down before the end of the month, citing a desire to affect change outside of government.
I cannot say that I blame her. Our government is a sick puppy with what may be an incurable disease that renders it impossible to save by either political party.

Perhaps she realized she is one of the most hated women in the US. McCain would be in office right now if he hadn't chosen her as his running mate.

is that so? did we watch the same election? I could have swore he was behind in the polls to start with, and chose a woman running mate in a last-ditch effort to bump his ratings.
Don't forget this isn't the first bid for presidency he blew. He didn't even win the primary the last time he ran. The reason he lost is the same reason everyone loses. They run out of money. The unwashed masses are easily manipulated by television and print ads (mainly tv), and it's true: any coverage is good coverage.
Just because you harbor ill-will for her doesn't mean everyone else does. Most of us are working on palin-2012.
Then again, i'm still trying to come to a reasonable explanation of how Bush got re-elected with his approval rating in 2004...
Finally, her "outside of government" is probably true. She's already been touring and giving speeches, etc for private organizations. She recently appeared locally to me, giving a showing at a local organization, Vanderburgh County Right To Life.
you know, it amazes me how hypocritical people can be. Her daughter gets preggo, and she's the worst parent ever. But it's ok if someone's kid smokes weed, lsd, robs, etc. Heaven forbid pregnancy happen. Never mind that's a johnny-come-lately society issue. In times of yore, people would have married before that age, let alone gotten preg. My great grandmother married when she was 15 to a 22 year old man. Today he'd be in jail. They were married for 60 years.

You're joking, right? Obama picked a colossal moron as a running mate and he still won.
McCain had nothing going for him but Palin.

This is good news. I've never have became more feared of any politician before Sarah Palin. Dick Cheney comes awfully close.
(To all the Parah Salin fans, read this as a lighthearted joke. This is about as close as I will come to caring about politics, so don't bother wasting your time posting lengthy hate/preach posts.)

+1. The worst vice president ever was elected last November (at least the worst since Spiro Agnew).
I can't say that I would blame her for leaving politics altogether. Considering the bums we have in Washington today, she would have been scalded to death had she decided to live there for awhile.

Re: Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska
Is this serious?!?!? I've been off in the woods for a few days.
Why would she do this? She's clearly interested in running for president, and I would assume that would be in 2012. This is a very strange signal. I would guess that Alaska is in a financial mess (like most of the states), and she realized that she would have to take decisive action. There is one pure, distilled, poison to presidential aspirations, and that is a track record. There is a reason that no sitting senator has been elected in decades (until Obama won in the last election, but he hadn't been senator for long).
I expect that the race for the 2012 GOP nomination begins at the end of this month.

Palin is clearly making plans for 2012 and stepping down for various reasons. She will run in 2012,... "You betcha!"

Re: Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska
well so far we've managed to show she's not hated, anyway... as for vice president choices, the theory is that you should choose someone stupider than yourself to make yourself look smart (read: potatoe ...) Since George w. clearly wasn't able to do that, he chose someone that made him look less evil instead. This is the logic behind obama's choosing. Our latest vp has so many issues, it's not funny, and what's worse he brings them to light every single time he opens his mouth, usually with an inappropriate story or two.

Biden is ok until he opens his mouth and reveals his feet.
I can't decide whether this is a good move for Palin. Nixon used this strategy to get to the White House (plus the Vietnam War), but he had just lost a race when he dropped out. Palin is a seated governor abandoning her constituency at a time of crisis, which can't possibly help, though with her potential opponents dropping their flies....uh...I mean dropping LIKE flies, she may still appear to be the best option.

alaska's been pretty well untouched by the rest of the nation's financial woes.
unless you meant something else? (more accurately, it's been untouched by our financial boons as well.)

Rob, I have to doubt that. I'm not sure that Palin understands the definition of "lame duck". Even Dan Quayle knew what that meant. Agnew never got a chance to know--one of the best decisions that Nixon ever made.
Good bye, Sarah. Godspeed.

Did you conservatives not see how stupid and incoherent this woman is? Did you not see her debate with Biden, or her interviews on television?
By all means, push her to win the Republican primaries in 2012, you'll just be helping the Democrats out.

yes we saw them, and who said we were conservatives?
anyone that actually did watch her online news interviews would easily see how the press was against her. She got her biden debate a week or so after becoming a running mate, and catie couric did everything in her power to make her look stupid. Example: "what about this new york mayor who did something?" palin:"its my understanding he recused himself" (look it up) and katie repeated the question over and over again because if she doesnt get an answer she doesn't like, she harasses you. I remember an interview she did with a guy who's wife drowned all their kids. she was like "did you think she was capable of something like this?" and slightly nodding her head while asking it. the guy gave a negative answer and you could actually see her get upset at the answer. SHE'S A *****
and did biden really come out of those videos any better?

Got a source on that New York Mayor thing?
Yes Biden came out a lot better.
I had to turn the debate off because I was so sick of her ridiculousness. She refused to answer any questions (probably because she never actually thought about the issue being asked), and instead just went on prepared, empty phrases. Talking about Joe-Six-Pack, and Hockey Moms whatever stupid phrases she wanted to throw in there.
She sounded completely unprofessional, incoherent, uneducated and frankly like a cartoon character.
And this is just on performance, not on idealogy specifically.
If Ron Paul was in that debate with Biden, I would say his arguments are educated, professional coherent and backed up with historical examples.

Re: Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska
A good rule in a debate is to answer the question that you want to be asked, not the one that you were asked. May sound weird, but it works with the audience. She had nowhere near the preparation for that debate that Biden had, but she didn't do badly to her supporters. If elections were decided by the intelligence and wisdom of the people in debates, we would never have ended up with W.

Democrats and republicans both have it wrong. 2012 needs to be the year of the libertarians. Republicans are ignorant bitter religious snobs and democrats are lazy dirty communist pigs. It is absolutely disgusting that only a person from one of these two parties has any real chance of winning an election.

Re: Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska
Palin's biggest issue is that she is obviously uncomfortable in front of cameras.
Some of the more ridiculous questions she was asked "
why didn't you get a passport before last year? don't you care about world events?"
i really don't feel like rehashing the catie couric interview. It was discussed thoroughly in a previous thread, complete with video links. Note that i am not 100% it was a mayor. It may have been a different member of new york's government but i am 100% it was new york and it was obvious Palin was being badgered. She had been in the lower 48 about a week at this time and is suddenly supposed to know the inner happenings of every single other republican. She didn't come from the background necessary to even have access to that information in the first place, yet in fact gave a decent answer.
How about this question? "Please list examples of mccain pushing for more regulation from his last 26 years of voting record" Her answer? "let me get back to ya". Seriously, i doubt even Mccain remembers what he did over the last 26 years.
Anyway Katie gave it a ridiculous spin the next day which got a lot of coverage, but here's the original interview

You have an interesting view point.
Because what I see is someone who's unstable, a quitter and can't take the pressure.
What a lame excuse, that she doesn't want to be a lame duck governor for the last year.
So from her point of view, should the President automatically quit on his 8th year in office? And hand it over to his VP?

I don't know. Ask Nixon what he thinks of that. She wouldn't be the first person in politics to quit because people didn't like her.
