Cannot access shared folder on the network

    Hello guys!

I need your help because I'm stumped on this one.

All computers are working except for this one.

I can't access the shared folder i tried

    \\computername\c$

    not working.

i even tried its IP address like \\xxx.xx.x.xx\c$

    also not working.

    I tried ipconfig/release - renew - flushdns not working

I tried winsockfix but still wont work.

The very weird part is i can't ping my own IP address. How weird is that? Please help me with this thanks.

    Additional Info:
Operating system: Windows XP Pro SP2
    Domain Server: Windows Server 2003

Re: Cannot access shared folder on the network

Have you checked to see whether the folder has "Shared" permission enabled?

Re: Cannot access shared folder on the network

Ok my bad it's not really the folder but the drive itself. It should have access to the folders when you put \\computername\c$

The thing i'm worrying is i cannot ping my very own IP address.

    Asking an obvious question...

If you have a firewall, is it configured to allow responding to PINGs?

Re: Cannot access shared folder on the network

Yes it is allowed. All computers can ping their own IP address except for this one computer. I tried reconnecting it to the domain by connecting to work group first and then connecting to the domain. It doesn't solve the problem. The internet is working but i cannot ping my IP address.

I can access shared drives and folders on the workstations on that troublesome PC but i cannot do the opposite. I cannot access the drives and folders of that troublesome PC using another PC.

I tried uninstalling the LAN card driver but to no avail.

It sounds like firewall problem. Does the computer in question has any software firewall installed (that includes windows firewall in XP SP2)?

have you tried making another share on the troublesome comp and trying to access it? because sometimes the c$ share or other administrative shares are disabled for security purposes.

Is your OS windows xp home, cause that would probably be your problem, due to its inability to network.
