    Moved to General Developer

Most folks refer to themselves as a Developer.

    I'm not a developer...I'm still a programmer.

The term "Developer" to me always conjurs up images of fat guys, smoking big cigars and chuckling over the land deal they just made.

Re: What do i call myself?

Companies that make and sell software for multiple use by many customers are often called Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). Very small versions of this (including one-person enterprises) are sometimes called "microISVs."

If you develop custom software (in the UK often called "bespoke" software) on a one-off basis you're a Programming Contractor if you are not an employee of the company using the software.

If you haven't sold a thing you're a hobbyist, maybe a student, or perhaps a "hopeful μISV" (where "μ" is the lowercase Greek "Mu" character). While a successful shareware author might be a μISV, you really have to have sales to use the title/description.

"If you haven't sold a thing you're a hobbyist," --- I've never sold a thing... I'm far from a hobbyist though. In my case, I call it "being employed" ...

Well if you're an employee that's another category, of course. I was just trying to answer the original question.

What about Senior Developmental Architect. Hell, I'm a Senior Customer Experience Executive and I sell phones.... (Or as my company puts it communication solutions).

If you write your code utilizing "copy and paste", you can always call yourself a "code carpenter".

You can use the title "Solutions Architect". No one knows what that really is, including the title bearer himself.
