    Windows Mobile

Ok so I dropped my phone last week and cracked the outer case of my Blackerry (I'm also fed up of the random Java errors I get!) and could do with a new phone, any recomendations for a half decent windows Mobile? Ideally somthing that i can get off EBay as my current contract has another 6 months.

Only things i'd like are a qwerty keyboard and decent enough to test some dev apps on.

You're narrowing your choices down if you want a keyboard.

You get to choose between (I think) the XPeria X1, Touch Pro, Touch HD Pro, TyTNII.

I generally hear good thing about the HTC phones and bad things about the X1; HTC also give you their own interface. Have you used a WinMo before, and by that I mean, are you sure you want to go from Blackberry -> WinMo?

Other than HTC, who else makes windows mobile compatible phones?

Well tbh, I've started doing a little mobile development and need a phone to test! Plus the windows mobile seems to support everything I need.

Ive got a HTC Touch HD, which unfortunately does not come with a qwerty keyboard...but the screen is large enough so that the on-screen keyboard is comfortable to use.
There are new HTC models coming out soon though that looks very nice, with hardware keyboard.

    Re: Windows Mobile

Most WinMo phones that are popular are actually made by HTC (even the X1 I believe). So the AT&T Tilt is actually the HTC TyTNII (and so on), just branded by the providers. They've started marketing their own phones now which are more popular because you get less bloatware from the providers.

I'll second the G1. I've had mine for a while and it has a full slide out keyboard. Also for development, the Android SDK is completely cross platform, it integrates nicely with Eclipse too in case you've ever used that. I've owned numerous WinMo phones over the last few years and would never go back from Android.

Samsung has come out with some pretty nice ones in the last few months. I'm considering getting one myself pretty soon.

I have never owned a samsung myself, but my brother, sister, and a couple of friends have.
And they all had one thing in common...they had a phone that was malfunctioning. I dont have high thoughts of Samsungs phones.

My first phone was an LG... tough phone. Piece of junk, but it did what it did reliably. Second phone was a Samsung... also tough. Tossed that thing all over the place, and never had any issues with it. Currently I own a Samsung Alias. Also a nice phone, no complaints.

Your in the UK right? got to www.expansys.co.uk they have a nice selection of sim free handsets. I second anything from HTC, I used a Palm Treo 750v which was an amazing phone, unfortunately they seem to have fired the guy who made the phones look nice and they now look appalling. I used many HTC handsets and always found the pretty reliable!

HTC is good, I use the HTC Touch (discontinued model) for development..Actually for that matter any Windows Mobile phone should be good, I found the TyTnII bulky and heavy, it has GPS though, something you may consider using for development work...

    thanks

I've been watching the market for a couple years now. Up until last fall, I would have agreed with you, based on what I was seeing about the phones Samsung was putting out. However, in the last six months they have come out with three phones that reviews are quite positive about.

quite upsetting. I wanted that phone.

And there really isn't a reason to hold out for a full keyboard unless you text a whole lot. If you're merely going to develop on it with the keybaord, you can pair a bluetooth keyboard to your phone. Nearly every phone made now supports it. I did this with my lotus yesterday as a lark.

Jus don't expect any thing you order from there to come quickly. I ordered a car charger for a blackberry over a month ago. Spoke to them yesterday and they said wait 7 days!!!!

i agree 100% with this. I had a samsung phone that if you left bluetooth on while it was charging it would overheat (a640). I had another one that would randomly decide the battery level was something other than what it was and suddenly shut off with a low battery warning. Sometimes it would go back to full before resetting. Also it would play static over the speaker even when off. I've went LG and never been happier.

I have used a couple of samsung phones. I have found that the volume levels on them were much lower than that on a Nokia. (Same price range).
