Don't ever call your game a WoW-killer
63 Warhammer servers are now being shutdown. It was a good game, but I had to stop playing it when, one evening, a majority of the population on my server disappeared. Fighting the silence was tougher than some of the mobs, although the silence would once in a while be punctuated with self-reassuring conversations about how this game was far better than WoW and it doesn't matter that everyone has gone to play WoW, they'll be back, you'll see...

I had this problem with Oblivion. I'd sit there waiting for hours for other people to log-in and play with me. Nobody ever does, but I won't give up.

It appears that you don't get invited even when not in real life.

I tried hanging onto Ultima Online for years. It sucked. Restarted my account a few months ago after having quit for a year, it still sucked - completely dead.
Here's to us!
Who's like us?
Darned few, and they're all dead!

That's the beauty of the Internet though... you can create a completely unrealistic persona of yourself in a make-believe game in which you perform heroic feats and - get ready for this - never have to talk to anyone! That, my broken friend, is the solution to all social problems.

WoW was probably the most stressful game I have ever played. It ruined my life.

Agreed. I could, and can never understand the hype it gets.
But then, I cannot stand most RPGs.

Oblivion is not an RPG. It's a way to meet like-minded people, many of them Orcs carrying enchanted glass longswords.
I don't live here any more.

WoW isn't an RPG, it's a way for people with no friends to meet other people with no friends and pretend that the popularity of their character has some real life significance.

Only if you're playing vanilla oblivion...but I've been over that ground many times before.
My usual boring signature: Nothing

I have actually had that dream on many occasions. It is comforting to know that I will continue to have it decades from now.

i can't imagine how you'd even play this online. It must be some kind of joke.

free server makes it all better. You think you're mad, Think of everyone who dumped $49.99 on Tabula Rasa. The servers are down.

Agreed 100%. I can't get into a game you can't win.

it's because of the celebrity endorsements.

true true. In other Oblivion news, i managed to get it to run on a Mac Mini running an intel 946 chipset. Most pathetic graphics money can buy. And no, the program is NOT OldBlivion. It's a different one that lies to programs you launch with it telling them you have better graphics than you really do. I lost T&L but it's quite playable. Didn't work with fallout 3 though

free servers! You know, you would think they would encrypt something like that. As it is, you can install launcher programs and fill them full of private server IPs.

Re: Don't ever call your game a WoW-killer
Nothing to do with celebrity endorsements. It was popular before that. However, I will not invite you to try it and find out why it's popular because that may be counterintuitive. The gist though is that they've had a lot of time to polish up the content as compared to other games. It's also got low system requirements so a lot more people can play it, including Mactards.

they aren't as low as they used to be. WOTLK nearly doubled them. And i used to play it. Got bored out of my mind in less than a month.
