KML is not a standard, it's an insult and the worst geodata format ever
I've been playing with different output formats for the GpsTracka app (which is doing somewhat alright right now, no thanks to kasracer ).
Of all the standards possible - GPX, KML and NMEA, KML is the worst. I wonder if this 'standard' was approve by a bunch of Google Sycophants, who are about this close (makes gesture) to being called Googletards.
Google: Hey everyone, look at this overly bloated, pointless, meaningless format we've created for representing geographical data. You use nested tags to represent coordinates! And, oh, there isn't a way to directly extract the latitude, you have to extract it and then parse it!
GoogleSycophants: Oh my god, Google is so awesome, that is the best format ever.
OnePersonWithSomeSense: Why not use the GPX format?
GoogleSycophants: Unbeliever! Get him!
Google: Approved. We'll put it in beta to propagate our business model of unstable software, lots of profit, and continued exculpability.
I've seen less bloat in a roadside diner after a beer and cheesecake binge. I've seen less redundancies in this recession than I have in this format. What sort of a text format needs it to be compressed for usage? For crying out loud, that isn't innovation, that's a workaround for your incompetence and shortcomings.
GoogleSycophant: But it's so popular, it must be there for a good reason.
Silence, you nincompoop noob. You do not know what you are talking about, because if you did, you wouldn't utter that tripe. Go and lick your google home page and gush about how amazing it is.

Sooooo, I take it that these aren't the same format as the standard EXIF tags 1 to 30?

EXIF is something completely different - they've managed to turn bad standards into an art form.

I've done a bit of NMEA coding before (from my trusty old Garmin ETrex).
I was interpreting all fields for the GPGGA and GPGSV (including altitude, velocity).
Need any help wid teh c0d?
I've not had time to browse at your code but if you don't do it already then you could use this extra information to interpolate positional data for periods when you have no GPS coverage. For example: last GPS signal said I was moving North East at 30 metres per second...I've not had any GPS coverage for 30 minutes seconds so I'm probably somewhere near Thebes by now.
Are you using the NMEA sentences to set the System clock on your phone? NMEA GPS timestamps are accurate.

OK, I think that's enough teasing for one day

And then they'll change it at least three times before forgetting to remove the Beta moniker.... and publish it.
