    Ares.exe being deleted automatically suspiciously

    Hi,

I have this P2P software (Ares from Galaxy) installed on my PC. Every few days, I find that the exe file is deleted from my system suspiciously and the shortcut on the desktop that points to this file stops working. All other files are intact. I have tried uninstalling the program and installing it again afresh several times, but the problem continues.

If I keep a copy of the exe file and replace it back into the programs folder when the problem occurs, it starts working again. So it is confirmed that only the exe file is being deleted, nothing else.

The most likely cause my hardware engineer pointed out to me was that either my Antivirus or firewall is misbehaving. I have AVG Antivurus (Free Edition) and Zone Alarm (Free Edition) installed. But The log files of both these software show nothing about this.
I don't want to reinstall these programs since I have limited bandwidth from my ISP. I would have to download them again and a huge amount of updates would need to be installed again too. Moreover, I'm not facing any such problems for any other software except Ares.

I have scanned my PC for viruses and other malware thoroughly both with this antivirus and online scanners too, but found none.

Does any one here have any idea about this?

Though the reports for Ares is good

    http://www.download3k.com/Antivirus-...Ares-Ares.html

but still check you antivirus option. If there is an option of "Automatically disinfect" or similar, then change it to "Prompt before repair" or something similar....

Now check it... If it is still getting deleted then we will take it from there...

open up avg then click on resident shield and at the bottom click manage exceptions then put the path to the ares program folder in there that way it will by pass the ares folder when live scanning also in that same window there is an option to " ask before removing threats" make sure that is checked
    hope that helps

Re: Ares.exe being deleted automatically suspiciously

I normally set AVG to ask before doing anything. Moreover an explicit scan of this file by AVG shows that it is clean. So it is highly unlikely that AVG is causing problems. Moreover there is no trace of this in its log files.

Ares starts automatically at system startup. So I can't figure out how it can be deleted while the file is in use. It is only at system startup every few days that I come to know the file is missing.

Though I keep a copy of this file at another location and put back that file there in program files folder whenever this happens as a workaround, I can't figure out why this exactly happens in the first place.

Could there be something else I'm missing?

Can you do a quick check for me? Check the AVG's virus vault. Do you see Ares there?
