    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - partmgr.sys blue screen?

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA - partmgr.sys blue screen?

    Please help me....

My PC stopped working today. Let me give you some background on the problem and then my attempts at alleviating the

problem... first of all, pc specs

    - P4 3Ghz
    - 512MB ram
    - 80GB seagate harddrive
    - Windows XP
    - Four partitons-C,D,E,F

Today when i booted my system it wasn't booting,so windows is not opening.SO i inserted the bootable windows xp cd and

followed the steps for reinstallation of XP.

It finished formatting the drive C and copied setup files. In the installation stage "Starting windows XP" a bluescreen

popped out .The summary of the message is a 0x00000050 with a message "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" and file name

"partmgr.sys" ... There's a bit more with address and such.So it couldn't able to complete the installation.

Now When i boot my computer it attempted to try to do a network boot (never did this before). After that it said that "insert

or reboot the correct boot media " etc ....something like this in black screen. Then i went into bios settings and checked my

hard disk is detectable and it is detected.

I looked up this error message and a couple sites said that it's possibly the motherboard main memory, or the L2 cache, or

the video ram... none of these are user-replacable. Also, I have not installed any new hardware or software recently.

Anyone know what's going on? I thought that if the main memory or the L2 is fried, I wouldn't be able to even boot to dos...

but it goes pretty far in the initialization of the windows setup. If it was video ram, I shouldn't be able to see anything

    on the screen possibly right?

I want to solve this problem please help me.

    ok, any help is appreciated
    thanks

that's ok, format and re-install. Don't do a quick format but a complete format... start a fresh install... your driver file (partmgr.sys) is corrupt...

    Hello,

Unfortunately I am in disagreement with koolsid on this fault. The main memory is faulty, any attempt at re-installing windows will lead to continuances of system files being corrupt.

I would advise replacing the RAM and then re-installing the operating system. Although there would have been no need to re-install in the first place as replacing the RAM would have corrected the issue. Everything has to go through the RAM whether from optical media or magnetic media due to DMA using RAM as a data container.

    Kind regards

    Steve
